Seen on Twitter (X): The danger of absolute democracy

This girl is really smart. Very interesting experiment, and a great teaching exercise.

Similar to that lesson you teach your kids about taxes. Give them an ice cream cone, then eat 30% before you give it to them and explain that’s how taxes work. People take your stuff who did nothing to earn it. 😉

I once managed a small Air Force administrative cell. In addition to tea breaks and lunch breaks, two women took extra breaks to ‘just pop out for a cigarette’. I kept note of their time away – 45 minutes per day (3h45m per week).
One Friday as we approached lunchtime, I said to all staff, “I am giving all staff 3 hours 45 minutes off for the week. Smokers have already taken their time off as small breaks during the week, so anybody who hasn’t had cigarette breaks during the week can have the rest of the afternoon off”
Cheers went up. Then came the protests from the 2 women about how “unfair” it was.
Then I added. “By the way. As of Monday, break times are strictly to be taken at designated tea breaks and lunch. ONLY. No ‘extra’ breaks are to be taken”. That too was “unfair” (somehow).
    Some people are never happy.
