Digging Band of Brothers: Time Team Special with Tony Robinson

If you like history programming, or have an interest in the military, particularly WWII, I think you will enjoy this program.

It was just released to YouTube today. If you have never seen any of the Time Team television programs (available on YouTube), they are a group of archeologists that digs various sites – mostly in Britain – in three days! The Time Team show originally aired in Britain from January 16, 1994 to September 7, 2014, and they recently launched a YouTube-only show.

This episode covers the dig of the WWII camp of the US 101st Airborne Division in Britain, at Aldbourne, Wiltshire, by Operation Nightingale, on the 80th anniversary since Easy Company were stationed here in 1943, shortly before D-Day. Working alongside service men and women from the US and UK, the team have just over a week to investigate the camp, once home to the iconic ‘Band of Brothers’. The dig took place at the beginning of June, 2023.

You may or may not recognize Tony Robinson, who  played Baldrick in the BBC television series Blackadder. You might also want to check out other series he has done – Walking Through History and Britain’s Ancient Tracks. Some of the episodes are also available on YouTube.

Quite nostalgic, as my Dad was over there (not one of the Band – although he would have loved desperately to be). That was more captivating than the title would suggest. Thanks Stella!
