The pic at the top, with the school bus, could literally be my good dog….he’s so sweet and well-trained. He responds to things I barely think about, just wanting to please meand be by me.
He’s the best dog I’ve ever had in so many ways and I am so grateful for his companionship…..and he barks BIG when it’s appropriate!! When it’s not appropriate, he does a muffled bark which is just hilarious, and then immediately checks himself and comes to wherever I am in the house to get his head scratched and find some reassurance that he’s not in trouble! I just won’t have a dog of any size “running the house”. Never have accepted that…and he’s just a complete winner on those issues.
One thing he and occasionally collaborate on is–if some irritable/unexpected sales person has rung the doorbell and I don’t want to be bothered with them–I answer the door so they know full well that I’m home. The dog is barking his head off at the window right by the door. Then, I do not request the dog to stop barking nor do I send him to his room. He just keeps barking his head off and the unwanted sales person has to try to talk above him. Good dog.
