According to the United States Department of Labor, the first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday.

2023 is the 129th official Labor Day!

Mornin’ all ya’all! Happy Labor Day.

Yes, I’m up at an odd time, just couldn’t sleep. Got a strange illness. Last Friday my vision went double so I went to the ER at one of my hospitals, but they found nothing. Saw my neurologist Thursday, nothing. Saturday evening I got a terrible case of shivering for about 10 minutes, so bad I could not walk, three blankets did not help. Finally just went away, then I started a fever, up to 104.4. Next morning, 99*. Went yesterday felt perfectly normal in all ways until about 2, when the shivers came back. Then temps of 104* to 106*. “Too high” my nurse friend said, go to the ER. I have a recurrence of the mononucleosis I had in college, and a UTI, incidentally. What’s really interesting is my brother found a research article linking mono/Epstein Barr Virus to the very kind of diplopia I had last week!

Afternoon all. Woke up this morning to heavy overcast, dark clouds, humidity, and about 54*. It was supposed to rain yesterday…………didn’t. It is supposed to rain today……….may or may not. It cleared up a little while ago and then got overcast again very quickly.

Don’t know what I will do today. Maybe take a nap. 🙄

Everyone be careful and enjoy the day.

Good afternoon, aus! We’re at 58 degrees right now and rainy. Supposed to hit 65. Rest of the week should be just overcast.

It honestly seemed that we didn’t have a summer. There were a few hot days but the air conditioning was seldom on…which should be good on the pocketbook, electricity-wise.

      Take care!

Leas hot here because it rained all day, heavy or light all over the area. My phone kept showing weather and flood warnings. Did not matter to me because I was inside my hospitals, working.

Aus, I went to this Amiri King’s website as I’d not heard of him before. He may have some interesting observations on X but, WOW, DON’T GO TO HIS SITE. After viewing just the “front page” I cleared my computer history just not to have it in the listings.

    An interesting and encouraging article.

    https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2023/09/time_for_another_great_awakening.html

… The problems of America today cannot be solved by politicians or our broken culture. We need another Great Awakening on a scale and resolve equal to the first two. There are some hopeful signs this may be happening.

In February this year, a large and spontaneous worship service ran nonstop for almost two weeks at a small Christian college in Kentucky. The occasion at Asbury University was so galvanizing that people flew in from around the country, overflowing outside the college’s chapel, to participate in the praying, singing, and discussions.

More than 200,000 people converged on the small town. There was no desire for publicity. No famous Christian speakers or bands attended. The only draw was the powerful presence of God. Many remained in line for hours to pray for just a few minutes because they realized the blessings of God were flowing in the chapel.

The spiritual cry spread out from Asbury to 37 other colleges, granting many young people the freeing experience of spiritual renewal. More than 200 teams of students have been sharing testimonies about the revival in churches since then, with hundreds more going out this summer.

Massive public baptisms were held this past summer at Pirates Cove in California. Pastors Mark Francey and Greg Laurie and hundreds of churches in Southern California baptized more than 8,000 people at these events.

Greg Laurie was active in the original Jesus Movement in the 1970s, and his story was recently told in the movie Jesus Revolution, produced by Angel Studios, which surprised critics and Hollywood alike with large box office receipts. Angel Studios has also produced the Chosen television series depicting Jesus and the Twelve Disciples, which has become very popular, using only crowdfunding donations to cover production costs. …

“According to The Daily Mail, Burning Man attendees are now suffering from hypothermia as strong rain and wind continue to batter the Nevada desert.”

Some of these people believe hypothermia only happens in Wisconsin when it’s -25(f). I actually saw a comment the other day, within a posted article, that there was “concern about the possibility of people catching hypothermia”. I wonder if they can come up with a vaccine for that.

Barack Obama: The Real-Life Manchurian Candidate?
Jamie Glazov’s new book on Obama delivers some startling – and disturbing – surprises.
September 1, 2023 by Jack Cashill

Having written four books about Barack Obama, I read Jamie Glazov’s new book, “Barack Obama’s True Legacy,” not expecting any surprises. To my surprise, I was pleasantly surprised.

Fall is my favorite season–always has been….as far as when, in first grade, we would carry our little sacks of different kinds of leaves to school, on the long bus ride, so that everyone in the class could trace their leaves on construction paper of the appropriate color and then they would be hung up all over the classroom….to be part of our decor until Thanksgiving.

Today was my day for cleaning/reconstructing the arrangement of things on the patio and getting a large number of wood pallets pre-staged to be ready to receive 2 cords of wood in a few weeks. It’s a lot of work but it’s work I enjoy….and then when it’s all done, I can admire it!! I’m always reminded of the old saying, “You can tell a lot about a man by what his wood pile looks like….”

Grant’ wood pile were always utterly pristine and orderly, no crooked stacking or anything like that….I try to sustain the tradition! And also becaue I do know I will be looking at the results for several months, until it’s all burned up!! So don’t want it to be messy…

Son and dil will be helping also….it’s always a joint process. And they have a large fire pit now, so sometimes some of it leaves with them. We’ll see how it goes! Anyhooo–love fall weather. Barely got to 70 here today which is just fine with me!
