In case you hadn’t heard . . .
An LGBTQ flag was burned at an elementary school in Southern California this month ahead of a Pride event, and police are investigating the incident as a hate crime, authorities said.
Of course breaking and entering and destroying another’s property are crimes, which did occur in this instance. However, burning of a flag is an expression of free speech, not a “hate crime”.
Just a reminder:
According to the United States Supreme Court, flag burning is a form of speech protected by the First Amendment. In Texas v. Johnson (1989), the Court held that flag burning was a form of symbolic speech political in nature and could be expressed even if it upset those who disagreed with him. The majority noted that freedom of speech protects actions that society may find very offensive, but society’s outrage alone is not justification for suppressing free speech. The government could not discriminate in this manner based solely upon viewpoint. In United States v. Eichman (1990), the Court reviewed a Congressional statute that attempted to be neutral as to the messages that might be conveyed, prohibiting flag burning except when attempting the “disposal of a flag when it has become worn or soiled.” The Court reaffirmed Johnson by the same 5-4 majority in United States v. Eichman declaring that flag burning was constitutionally protected free speech.

I still have trouble trying to comprehend how “pride” is associated with gays! What’s to be proud of? If I accomplish something that took a lot of work to do, I’ll be proud and show my pride. Just another attempt to change or add a word meaning to something that is in reality, nothing! That rainbow flag is a representation of the 7 basic colors that are visible. ROY G BIV. Indigo being a slightly different shade of violet. Technically speaking, purple is not a color. It has no listing of a frequency that can be visible to the human eye. Anything beyond violet becomes ultra violet. Just like anything that’s above red becomes infra red.

As I recounted the quote by Bruce Bower in the Megyn Kelly post, “Being gay is an attribute, not an accomplishment.”

I still have trouble with using the word, attribute, in the case of these psychologically unstable individuals. The word, illness, would be more appropriate.

The word attribute in this case means “characteristic”, and it is not positive nor negative.

I like all of this theater, but my question is whether a vote in the House to censure this twit will amount to anything? If it only has to pass through the House, it sounds real good, until the d’s take over again. If it has to go to the Senate or to Mr. Potato Head’s desk for a signature, don’t waste our time.
