    Happy Tuesday, Stellars, visiting Italy….

Alberobello, Puglia and cone-shaped houses called trulli, ca. 1000+…

The medieval city of Cefalu, Tyrrhenian Sea, Sicily…

Collodi, Tuscany (looks like it just flows down the hillside)…

    Praiano, Mediterranean Sea, Campania…

You can rent one of the cone shaped houses for $104 a night for a 1 bedroom, one bath, kitchenette. Seems like a cute idea.

Or we could have a Stellar Cruise of the Adriatic and take a day tour of Alberobello’s trulli when we get to the southeastern part of the boot. This looks like a nice spot for a rest and a glass of wine….

My oldest nephew moved to southeast Italy from San Francisco when he retired (he’s only 1 year younger than I am.) He is in the town where his grandparents were born and raised. Acquaviva delle Fonti, Bari, Puglia.

ADD: Because his grandfather was still not an American citizen when my nephew’s mother was born, he is entitled to Italian citizenship (he has dual citizenship.)

I pulled up Google Earth to go and look at the town….lots of orchards (or vegetable fields?….Wikipedia says the area is famous for its red onions…)….

The business of “the age of things” in Europe always seems significant to me….so many cities/areas have community centers/cathedrals/historical sites that go back hundreds and hundreds of years. When people from those areas visit here, they think we are really the new kids on the block.

I enjoy Google Earth because, almost anywhere on earth, I can pop down on to the street and drive through the neighborhoods. Even get to see some of the people walking around–who just happened to be there the day the camera car drove through!

Using that software, I got to visit with a little look to Bethel, AL, where Tundra PA lives…and see the little roads and lakes/rivers she mentions with regard to the sled dog activity.

Really an interesting area, Stella, and it looks to be a pretty dry/almost arid type of land?

You probably know more about the area now than I do, Sharon! I’ll have to look it up on Google Earth too.

I have gone to the area on the Danish island of Bornholm, where my material grandfather was born in the 1880s, and have driven up and down the little streets in the villages. Really, really remarkable. I look at as much of it as I can take in and wonder, “Did Grandpa Soren ever come through this village?”

At the time he emigrated, any Danish young people (non-professionals) who could were getting out. There was no more room for farm or land expansion, and for those who were what we would call blue-collar, the opportunities were super-limited.

He ended up spending time in Racine, WI, driving a dairy/milk wagon/team of horses to put cash together to homestead in Montana. My paternal grandfather did the same thing (out of Denmark, but not Bornholm) and spent a couple of years in Nebraska working for farmers there as a “hired man” to put cash together to go north to Montana.

Then the son of one met the daughter of the other and here I am! Tomorrow will be the 126th anniversary of my father’s birth….he was born in 1897. I’m the last in a long line of children in our family, so it’s a bit unusual, but there it is!

Remember when we actually DID think it was a good day whenever the FBI got involved in a case? Makes a person wonder if they ever really did anything good or was it all propaganda.

I watched an old movie last night, “Kind Hearts and Coronets.” I thought at first it was going to be boring, but it moved along so fast and was interesting. It was about a man whose mother got kicked out of the Duke’s line of succession because his mother married someone they didn’t want her to. He works his way back in. The two female leads are both amazingly beautiful. For something different, I highly recommend it.

Mornin’ All. It is 59*, sunny and beautiful here. It is the kind of day that I longed for in Florida. If we had Spring, it usually last a day or two before the humidity and heat set in for the summer.

I have an appt with the eye doctor for another shot. It has been two months and my eyes seem fine. I hope we can stretch it out again.

I am negotiating with the managing company about the lease. They seem open to accepting the doctor’s statement about Loki, but I had trouble sending a copy of the letter to them. I hope the last one finally went through.

Well, got to get dressed. Hope your weather is as good as it is here.

Sunny, started out rather cool because we had clouds and rain all afternoon yesterday. Supposed to go up to high 80’s, if it doesn’t cloud up and rain again. Don’t need the rain, my yard is soupy.

Hope all turns out well re your eye treatment and with the Loki negotiations.

Our weather is rainy with thundershowers to start any moment, and tomorrow will be the same. At least I got the trash into the bin early today and a package delivered–though it was broken open. Luckily nothing missing.

      Take care.
