My dad used to tell that tale in the 60’s when I was young. Then, it was two chiefs bargaining for squaws; and the punchline was:
“The squaw on the hippopotamus hide is equal to the sum of the squaws on the other two hides.”
    Funny how stories evolve!!

  4. I posted that joke on my blog once, and got chewed out by a reader who informed me that “squaw” was a racist slur and I should be ashamed of myself. It’s amazing how wokeness destroys humor.
