Fort Santa Cruz….
Colonial Algeria, was the period of French colonisation of Algeria. French rule in the region began in 1830 with the invasion of Algiers and lasted until the end of the Algerian War of Independence in 1962. While the administration of Algeria changed significantly over the 132 years of French rule, the Mediterranean coastal region of Algeria, housing the vast majority of its population, was an integral part of France from 1848 until its independence. (Wikipedia)
Prior to the French colonization, Algiers was part of the slave trade in the Barbary States. French Monks apparently often purchased Christian captives which had become slaves in order to take them home to France and free them.

Good morning Lucille!
After watching the Drive Thru History series on Christianity, I never see these locations in the same way. Thanks for the winter getaway travelogue!

Good afternoon, weather! You’re most welcome! The Internet certainly helps us “travel” and learn history. It’s my main hobby nowadays.

Thanks for the reminder…I’m going to check out more of those areas. I will look for Drive Thru History.
I enjoy any history and once I find a good/favorite source, I stay at it. Sometimes finding it to begin with is elusive and I have trouble settling into the hunt.

FBI says ‘radical-traditionalist Catholic ideology’ is national threat based on SPLC smears, backtracks after outcry
FEB 11, 2023 9:00 AM By CHRISTINE DOUGLASS-WILLIAMS
The Southern Poverty Law Center is no more than a Leftist smear machine. Even Politico asked several years ago whether it had “lost its way?” It certainly has. But that didn’t matter; it continued its savaging of conservatives everywhere. Despite the SPLC’s reputation, it remains a go-to source for woke leaders. Its latest target is “traditionalist Catholic ideology.” The FBI actually accepted that traditionalist Catholic groups are “hate groups” and listed them as “national security threats” based on the SPLC’s smears. After an outcry, the FBI rescinded its report, but did not offer any adequate explanation of the incident.

Good day to you, WeeWeed! Spitting Christians in the eye is “in” nowadays. Any way Biden et al. can insult and persecute Christians they will try. We haven’t heard the last of this. It’s just gone underground for a while. They will figure out a way to keep folks from pushing back and objecting. However, we know that letting it slide is simply out of the question for any believer.
There was a song we sang in Sunday School and I think the lyrics go like this: “Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross. Hold high His royal banner, He must not suffer loss. From victory unto victory His armies shall He lead, ’til every foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord, indeed.”

Travel day. Going to see my sister again in Charlottesville VA. American changed the flight out of Gulfport from 8:30 am to 6:30 am (yuck) so I have 3 1/2 hour layover in Charlotte.
Boarded the dogs this time. Cher Chez acted like I was taking her to the guillotine (she’s staying in a house with kennels in the living and dining rooms, and two cats who are used to dogs).. Hannah was cool with everything, but she’s staying with her trainer, who manages her very well.

Charlotte NC is grey, rainy & 41*. I am freezing in the terminal and have no desire to go outside. My sister said it is raining and heading for sleet later at her house. She’s bringing a warm coat for me.

Do your best to stay warm. Maybe a hot cup of cocoa or tea?

Mornin’, kids. Our Favorite Sunday Columnist has some thoughts on gubmint and their desires to protect us from ourselves, aka censoring what we see and read…… She’s not impressed. Coffee’s on the way.

Afternoon, All. Back from church. There was an older couple who weren’t there this morning. Evidently she was unresponsive when her husband woke up. They said it wasn’t a stroke or heart attack although, I can’t imagine how they figured that out so quickly before she got to the hospital. But, she was taken there and was still unresponsive. Didn’t sound good. We didn’t have Bible study because the pastor went to the hospital to be with the couple. Prayers that she is all right, but it didn’t sound good.
It is another pretty day here in Montana, although not quite as nice as yesterday. I think everybody is appreciating the nice weather compared to what we had in Nov and Dec.
Hope your weather is nice and you all have a nice day.

Good afternoon, aus. We’re at a balmy 44 degrees and the sun peeks in and out. It’s hard to get started with the day.
Sorry about your older friends from church. Definitely doesn’t sound good. Of course you’re right about their not knowing if she had a stroke or heart attack before she had any tests. The paramedics would have checked her heart but I doubt they had any equipment to check for strokes. Prayers for her husband and family.
When Mom had a seizure I rode in the LAFD ambulance to the hospital and the paramedics were checking her out. But sitting in the front seat it wasn’t possible for me to see what they were doing. The not knowing was difficult.

You are right about not knowing for sure, but based on what they did in the ambulance when I had mine, they knew my blood pressure, heart rate, and that I had chest pain (administered nitroglycerin and aspirin). When I got to the hospital, they did an EKG in the emergency room, and immediately scheduled me for catheterization and angioplasty, which began within 30 minutes of my arrival at the hospital. Of course, I was never as sick as that woman, and totally aware and lucid.

Just got an update on the lady who went to the ER this morning. They have found no reason for her unresponsiveness, but she is awake and they have sent her home.

There is absolutely no reason to trust the CCP on anything at all. Would I want to nationalize any U.S. property which the CCP owns? Mmmm, that would be commie procedure for sure. However, we MUST do something to prevent their “benign” takeover. They aim to defeat us without firing a shot. I hope this ban passes.
House Republicans Push To Ban China From Buying U.S. Farmland
By Mike LaChance – Published February 11, 2023 at 11:21pm
One of the concerns is that if China became involved in our food supply line, they could potentially attempt to starve parts of the country.

I don’t get this. Why do we not have reciprocity with other countries? If we can buy property in your Country, you can buy property here. We have always taken it in the shorts in this regard, and I just am too simple to understand why it’s this way.

In North America, our two neighbors restrict foreign property purchases. Unfortunately, the U.S. has absolutely no restrictions against foreign nationals buying property anywhere in America.
In Mexico, foreigners can’t buy shoreline property and for many miles inland from the coast. Outside the restricted zones, foreigners can purchase but I think there’s some requirement about using Mexican banks.
Starting in January 2023, Canada restricts foreign land purchases. I haven’t read through their new law yet; so I don’t know details.
