Dedicated in 1931, the Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida sculpted the face. Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30 metres (98 ft) high, excluding its 8-metre (26 ft) pedestal. The arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft) wide. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. (Wikipedia)
My father worked for Braniff Airways and we could fly for almost free. When I graduated from high school my family took a trip to Rio and Lima, Peru. I remember the beach at Copacabana because of the swirly mosaic design on the walkway just off the sand, and the statue. We also ate at a restaurant with a tree in the middle of it, and the ceiling was panes of glass fitted together.
Mornin’ Lucille, Wee, and all ya’all! Two pretty days in a row, and I missed yesterday b/c I was in the hospital seeing a bunch of pts. I did sit out on the porch to watch the dogs cavort while I drank morning coffee, and did get dinner with a friend: Mexican food.
Today, I start out at the hospital again, then go for lunch with another friend (my health care power of attorney, a nurse practitioner).
Good day to you, Stella. It’s overcast, then sunny, then back again today and 35 degrees at present in the Panhandle.
I’m awaiting 3 packages via FedEx, two of which have been bouncing around in the FedEx system for ten days, having started out in Mississippi with delivery set for the 15th. Each package has breakables in it; so hopefully everything is intact.
I’ve noticed that FedEx has recently had trouble delivering items on time. I wonder if they are having trouble getting drivers or workers at their way stations.
Afternoon, All. Nice day here. It is 25* and almost clear sky. I guess it was good in the Fall to have some extreme, below 0* weather first, because this just freezing weather doesn’t seem so extreme now. LOL
Have to get another shot in my eye. So, I need to get ready to go.
Stella, just FYI, I didn’t get a post from you this morning. This happens every once in a while and I don’t know why. I forgot to check my spam for it, although it shouldn’t be in there.
Made the veggie teriyaki stir fry from the post the other day. Substituted regular white wine for mirin, frozen corn for baby corn, and added some asparagus and red onion. Other veg: carrots, mushrooms, snow peas, broccoli, red bell pepper. Served it with brown rice. Here it is:
ABSURD Priorities: State Department bans Times New Roman font
January 20, 2023 – By Eric Utter
At a time when the U.S. — and indeed the world—is facing an increasing number of deepening crises and heightened instability, it is comforting to know the State Department under President Biden is working hard…on ensuring that only “accessible” font choices grace its documents.
Interesting vid re Prince Harry’s claim of 25 Taliban kills when he was an Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s reaction/claim that those killed were civilians, not soldiers…a war crime. It’s pretty obvious that Harry’s revelation isn’t merely going to go away and may end up being a serious crisis for the U.K.

Stellars…have a lovely Friday…in Rio de Janeiro (it’s 81 degrees and raining there today)….

I was almost convinced that Crowder was whining about nothing. Katie made me think differently about this.

That’s just crazy. While Times New Roman isn’t my personal favorite, it is a very popular font.
