If You Thought December’s Arctic Blast Was Bad, Something Much Worse Could Be Barreling Toward America
    By Jack Davis – January 14, 2023 at 11:18am

A blast of arctic weather has Siberia in a deep freeze that some forecasters say could come to North America within a week or so.

The Siberian town of Zhilinda hit a low of 79.8 degrees below zero Fahrenheit Tuesday, setting a record for January, according to The Washington Post.

The reading was Siberia’s lowest temperature since 2002 and was accompanied by other weather stations that show readings of 76 degrees below zero or even lower.

“The FUR!!!” Remembering our Maine coon and the fur!
A few days ago, our kitty here paced around the house for a couple of hours before I figured out he was afraid to go into the garage alone to use his litter box. Roof was shedding snow with huge ‘booms’ on the deck and frightening him half to death. By the time I carried him out, it was mostly done slipping; and he did his business while I stood guard. Learning moment! 🙂

Oh, I SOOO want a Maine Coon! I’ve been trying to find one for over 2 years now. There are no Maine Coons in Alaska, that I can find. Catteries in the Lower 48 are taking reservations a year in advance and charging 4-5 thousand dollars per kitten! I’ve heard Maine farmers all have a dozen or more of them in their barns to kill mice and rats. I want a male with extra toes, any color. Can you find me one, weather? I would be forever grateful!

Mornin, kids! Our Favorite Sunday Columnist has some thoughts on FJB and his secret files. She’s not overly amused at this point. For some of you who don’t always get down the rabbit hole, she also talks about the “Trump-appointed” special counsel investigating this mess. Hint – he’s not as “republican” as the media portrays him. Coffee’s brewin’, and will be ready shortly. Grab a cup and sit a spell.

Afternoon All. I got a ride to church this morning with a really nice lady. She said she would have been happy to pick me up all along, she just didn’t know I needed a ride. The sidewalks and streets were all ice but were salted down by the time we got back. Some of the roads were really scary.

Last night I smelled a skunk and waited until the smell went away before I took Loki out for her last potty. Then, sometime in the middle of the night I awoke from the choking smell of the skunk again. I thought skunks hibernated. I guess this one doesn’t. He must live around here pretty close, because I have smelled him on other mornings. The really funny part was that Loki didn’t seem to notice anything. Or, maybe just doesn’t care.

Hope you all stay safe and warm.

5 Surprising Tips for Deterring Skunks from Visiting Your Home
      By alphatechpet | Tuesday, March 3, 2020

Skunks may be seen as a nuisance by many people, but they aren’t inherently bad. They are relatively easy-going animals and can be beneficial to your neighborhood—they can help control common pests like insects and rodents.

However, skunks can pose a severe health risk to you and your family if they decide to move in near your house, due to their defensive odorous spray and the possibility that they could be carrying rabies. Skunks are also notorious for destroying lawns and crops, tearing up garbage and scattering it, and leaving a lingering stink in their wake wherever they go.

Sewer gas can smell like skunk, and is dangerous to breathe. Probably should call the manager to have it checked out.
