    “Scrooge” Facts….

    Who played the best Scrooge?

Alastair Sim, “A Christmas Carol” (U.S.)/”Scrooge” (U.K.) (1951) – Generally acknowledged to be the greatest of the screen Scrooges, and he deserves the reputation…

How old was Scrooge in A Christmas Carol?

His ‘future tombstone’ states he was born in 1786. That means Scrooge was 57 years old during most of the film, and was 50 years old when Marley died in 1836.

Has a Christmas movie ever won an Oscar?

On Dec. 21, 1971, ABC premiered a half-hour animated adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol that went on to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film—the only time that a version of tale ever received an Oscar.

Old graveyards are fascinating…this is both an entertaining and touching vid from Shrewsbury on the River Severn, Shropshire County, England….

Oh Lucille, if you haven’t read the Brother Cadfael books set in Shrewsbury I highly recommend them. Great mysteries, and they transport you to another time and world. There’s also a very good series starring Derek Jacobi.

Cadfael is a rather worldly and curious monk The author was a self taught scholar. She paints a vivid picture of life in medieval times, striking a good cord between the hard reality of it and making it enjoyable, hopeful, and even funny at times. And she had a knack for creating fascinating mysteries for Cadfael and his young friend to solve.

The good guys aren’t always good, and the bad guys aren’t always what they seem. And you get to “see” the the old Abbey and her grounds, the town of Shrewsbury, and lots of the River Severn through the eyes of the author.

Good day to you, Menagerie! I haven’t read the books but I did see many of the series episodes. Maybe I’ll check to see if YouTube has them. Remembering the plots after all these years isn’t likely and so I can have a fine time viewing them again.

Yes, I love that church and cemetery. Such unusual architecture.

That’s a beautiful cemetery, and the church is more impressive from the back than the front.

I agree that he was the best Scrooge. He was so believable as Scrooge. I have probably seen all the versions that have been made, and they all seem to be missing something.

Good afternoon, aus! Generally I view the Alastair Sim version every year plus a few others. The copy I posted is an excellent one and includes a number of scenes which must have been cut out of the copies I’ve seen previously since I don’t recall them at all.

Yesterday I viewed a 1935 Brit version, though the copy was really poor. The story was shortened, either from script or simply being edited. However, it’s the only version I’ve ever seen in which Scrooge goes to church at the end.

Thank you for this, Lucille. This is the version I compared all the other versions to, but I couldn’t remember what version it was.

AMNESTY, CRACK AND OTHER RINO SENATE SELLOUTS
    Daniel Greenfield December 15, 2022

It’s December. The cold winds are blowing and darkness comes early. Worker productivity drops across the board except for the one class of workers who don’t work any other time of the year.

    Congress.

Afternoon, All. It is in the 20*s here and it has been snowing all morning. I have made a list of all the Christmas movies I want to watch in the next week or so. Tops on my list has been “It’s a Wonderfull Life”. And, high up is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I am so happy to be here near my family for Christmas this year. And, there is snow.

Well, Merry Christmas, and stay warm and well.

This world gets weirderer and weirderer every day. Now our gubmint is spending millions of our tax dollars on TSA screening machines so the “non-binary” nutjobs don’t get their feelers hurt.
