Mornin’ All. It was 38* and had evidently rained last night because the concrete was wet. The sky was 3/4 dark grey and ominous looking and 1/4 open, pretty blue sky edged by beautiful white clouds. I can’t tell which way the clouds are going.
My left shoulder and arm has been bothering me for a long time. I finally was able to get to the Chiro, and it helped, but it was starting to get bad again. Well, yesterday I finally found my TENS unit and used that last night. It is amazing the difference this morning. My friend got a unit a long time ago and insurance paid for it. Good thing, it cost $1,000 back then. But I got mine from Amazon for $15 or $20 and it works just fine.
Filling out my ballot today and getting it mailed. I decided to vote my mail since I might not be able to get to the voting booth, wherever it might be. And, I am thinking that was probably a good decision.

I already filled out my ballot, but I think I’ll drop it in the box at City Hall. I don’t trust my mail person.

You’re definitely in a banana belt, Mom – we live many miles southwest of you and had 27 this morning, up from 22 the last two nights. No previp today, but we’re all in-fer-it tomorrow morning.
Most city hall have a ballot box that is always available. We’ll be dropping ours at City Hall, and my inlaws (92 years young) will be driving 20 miles to drop theirs at the Republican National Headquarters at a nearby city (followed by lunch at In-n-Out Burger! 🙂

My son and his wife got snow yesterday. I don’t think it ever stuck. We got a misty rain. But, once it does snow, I am home bound. The only place I know to drop it off is 3 miles away in heavy traffic. That is why I signed up for mail in ballots. I have been told my 2006 Ford Crown Vic with rear wheel drive will not handle the snow. Besides, I can’t afford snow tires. And, I don’t drive in snow. There probably won’t be much where I am, but I don’t think it is time to learn.

If you get brave, do what I did when I was first learning. Go to an empty parking lot (or have someone else drive you there), and practice doing “donuts” in the snow. You will learn how your car handles on slippery streets without getting into a crash. Also, I don’t know how they treat roads where you are, but the streets may be cleaned sooner than you expect after a snowfall.

I did drive on the roads in Upstate NY some, but only the ones that were heavily salted and in the middle of the day. One of the first trips I made was a few blocks to the grocery. I was fine until I turned into the parking lot and then was all over it. Scared me half to death. I have been told that the roads right where I am will be clear, but not farther out. But, everyone says I need 4 wheel drive and snow tires. I will have to drive down to the corner because I don’t have a washer/dryer. I will need to drum up some courage to even do that.

I found a chenille one on Amazon. I had one years ago that I really liked. But this one has a band on it and is pretty tight. Another one I got from Walmart. It has a fuzzy lining in it and a 2 to 3 inch brim and ear coverings with a strap. I tried on everything I could find at Walmart and they were all too tight. I ordered this one. I will see if it will stretch.

That’s happened to me, too, regarding the hats being so tight. I ordered online several lightweight turbans to wear when I have to go in for tests and the rooms are too cool. They were so small I gave them to my friend’s 6 year old granddaughter for dress-up playtime…LOL!

I’ve read many of Sundance’s hurricane updates over the years, but this one is extreme. We in other states follow hurricane disaster news while it’s happening but tend to lose touch once it’s over. So important to know how others’ lives are being affected.

Yes, disasters cease being a story very quickly. It’s on to the next big story or one the media can make into a big story like Russia-Russia-Russia.

Like reading about the Louisiana and Mississippi aftermaths from Katrina, and so many other storms. Czar and I were not allowed to return home for a month after Katrina. We then lived through vegetation debris, appliances and computers on the curb with your household goods (when they heard the trucks coming people went out to the streets and applauded and cheered), debris pick ups into a pile several stories high out in Lakeview, electricity off and on again for no reason, restaurants open for 4 hours because they only had staff for that long (little to no housing for low wage workers), National Guard with guns doing restocking at the grocery, constant repair crews in every specialty for years. Battles with insurance companies.
It took my friend 7 months to get her house repaired after Ida in August 2021, and she got workers almost immediately after the storm. Lake Charles, LA is still an unholy mess 2 years after Laura and Delta.
And who knows where it will happen next year. Fortunately, people do look o it for each other: neighbors and strangers from afar help on a daily basis, from cooking to pulling nails out of studs so new wallboard can go up.

We went through a less extreme, but still bad, similar situation after our rain storm disaster in 2014. Basements in several cities were flooded with a mix of rain water and sewage, ruining finished rooms, mechanical rooms, laundry rooms etc. Trash was piled up in front of houses for a couple of weeks. Of course, we all had to wait for services to be restored. I had no hot water for more than a week, and it took several weeks to replace my furnace. Fortunately, some of us did get some assistance from FEMA.

If you watch The Crown, the new season starts November 9. Here’s the official trailer. Imelda Staunton plays Queen Elizabeth this time around. She is married to Jim Carter, who plays Mr. Carson the butler on Downton Abbey. She is also in both of the Downton Abbey movies, playing Maud Bagshaw.
