“Be Still My Soul” – Sung by Libera

The words were written by Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel (b. 1697) in 1752 and some years later translated into English from German by an Englishwoman named Jane Borthwick. The tune is from the vocal portion of “Finlandia” written by Jean Sibelius in 1899.

    Sibelius: Finlandia (Prom 75)

Performed by the BBC Singers, BBC Symphony Chorus and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sakari Oramo.

Mornin’ All. Very pleasantly cool this morning with clear, sunny skies, heading to about 95*. I keep being told this won’t last long. . I’m making progress getting things put away, but there is still a lot to do. I’m going to make this short because I am going to church this morning. Hope you all have a great and beautiful day.

Enjoy he heat…and be grateful if you don’t get smoke from the Calif fires, Mom. We’re south and west of you, and our smoke-free streak is surely coming to an end! 😦

I church I heard of one family who needed help moving things out of their house because of the nearness of fire on the mountain behind them. Everyone here in this area in Montana is watching a fire very closely.

    • DH & I are starting to talk about moving from NE to ID, WY, MT. We have two serious questions you could possibly help us with since you just made the big move:
1 – Did the change in elevation bother you? I do not know where you are in MT, but I’m guessing the elevation is much higher than in FL. I have some lung damage from insecticide exposure as a child. It does not bother me up to about the 15000 or 2000 foot altitude I’ve been to in the mountains here, but the area of the Rockies are much higher.
      2. – DH is concerned about the cost of moving. If we sell all our furniture etc we get almost nothing and have to re-purchase, but it probably costs a lot to move it. Neither he nor I am up to Uhauling from NE all the way there.
Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks and
Have a great day everyone! 😉

I checked the elevation here just now so I would give you the correct data. I am at 3,000 ft. And, yes, I came from living in FL for the last 12 years at 1 ft.

I have really tired easily, which is not normal for me, however, let me remind you what I did before and after I got here. I spent two weeks packing, and two days furiously getting things in the truck with my son. Three days driving 2500 miles, 16 to 18 hrs a day, I think it was, arriving at 2:00 in the morning of the 4th. Got up at 7:00 AM and went to church. Went to my apt and unpacked the truck (the kids who came to help did most of that). Got up Mon. and rode in a parade on July 4th, went to two different pot luck parties, sat and watched fireworks over the valley, and went home to bed after midnight. No naps. On Tues. went to apt. and started unpacking. I can’t tell you if it was the altitude or all the activity that I was not used to that made me tired. Probably some of both. I know the altitude did affect me some because I was constantly yawning.

Now remember, this is Kalispell and it is in the far North Western corner of MT. It is beautiful and I can’t tell you how much I love it here. The people are some of the nicest I have met anywhere. The most common sayings are “It’s all good” and “No worries.”

You could get a couple of quotes and see what it might amount to. They are really looking for customers……………well, at least, in FL they were. One mover wanted $14,000 to move me to MT. But people aren’t leaving FL very much right now. LOL. And, they will have to tack on the gas mileage. If you can sell you old furniture and like used furniture and can get it secondhand somehow, I think that probably would be your best bet. But, I am somebody who rarely buys any furniture new.

Ir you decide to come to this area and need to rent, I have a lot of advice for you.

My goodness – I’d be out flat on the floor, forget about parades and parties, after all you did!
I’ve been searching around comparing elevations in ID, MT, WY & NH. I figured FL was low, but 1 foot – that’s quite a difference to 3,000 obviously. No wonder why you were yawning (trying to get more air). Most of the roads here try to avoid the taller mountains so they go through passes at about 2000 feet, so I think I’d be good at 3,000 feet. One of the areas in ID we’re considering is actually lower than 2000. It really varies there the way it varies in the mountains here. Most of Wyoming seems high elevation except for the NE. More of MT is reasonable elevation.
It’s about the same mileage (2550) from here to Kalispell as FL to Kalispell (weird huh?), and even further to ID. I’d think NH to MT would be more than FL to MT because of all the moving trucks in FL! At that price, and adding gas, I’d have to sell everything, and take a flight!
Thank you so much for your offer of help with rentals if we land up in MT. You are so kind. It is so reassuring that the people are nice there. I’m guessing most of the people in the other states we are looking at are nice too. The local people here are stressed over the changes some of the transplants are causing. We keep on pushing against the incoming tide of people “from away” in order to keep a low crime, low tax, freedom loving state.
I’m glad you’re in a nice place and close to family – that’s the best!

The reason I mentioned renting is that it takes a while to find an available place. Don’t plan to come, stay in a hotel and find something. It took me 6 months. But, I can tell you how to get on a waiting list right away and that might help you. So be sure and let me know if you want that.

            • I will! 😉 Thank you!
I just spent 3 hours looking for a new place within an hour of where I am now. I looked at land, a house, a house to tear down & build a new house – nothing! I’m priced out of everything unless it’s next to high tension wires or about to be flooded. It took me 2 1/2 years to find this place, and that was in a buyers market. It’s now a crazy sellers market, but I can’t find a place to buy even though my house has almost doubled in value.

Hi everybody! I just took a loaf of banana bread out of the oven (I see a lot of that in my future), and I’m making a loaf of sandwich bread. Looks like a good recipe; if you are interested, I’ll share.

Partly cloudy day with a high of 86 and light winds; really nice.

PS: I’m in the process of inventorying and organizing my pantry and freezers. I have lots of meat and fish, plus several bags of veg. and 7# of butter in the freezers!
