Almost cloudless here, gonna sit outside to further my tan for about half hour or so. Many say don’t but I like my natural Vitamin D and all that’s involved. Just try not to over do it.

That is an awesome article. Thank you. I first remember Baxter Black when he used to appear on Johnny Carson back in the late 70’s, or early 80’s. I think the Hollywood crowd viewed them as a bit of a novelty, but there was a lot of truth in their words.

Ah, Johnny Carson…how I miss his humor where he skewered everyone. No way could I tell you what his real political feelings were. And that’s the way it should still be today. Alas, not so.

I bought my Pop the DVD series of the Tonight Show w/JC. He has never watched it because his late wife didn’t want to. I’m thinking about getting it from him and watching. Need some good clean belly laughs.

Morning everybody! I’m having problems again with WordPress – have to log in for every comment, can’t “like”, no notification bell etc. I cleared my cache yesterday to solve another problem and this one popped up again. Fortunately my “powers” are still active on the administrative side of the blog, so I can comment at will there AND see the notification bell! Still can’t “like” though.

I can like if I do it from the “back room” (admin view), and use the notification bell. I can’t like WeeWeed’s comments at all, because they don’t show up in the bell. Weird.

Good day, Stella. I’ve noticed that occasionally there’s a lag time between my hitting the “post comment” button and when the comment shows up in the feed. Other times it pops up immediately. It’s done that in the past, too. Maybe that’s normal, though.

I have weird things that happen depending on which browser I use. Things seem to work well with Edge, and suck with Safari. I use a Mac desktop and get very different experiences across the board with each browser. On FB, I can access Messenger via FB, but not w/Edge. I can also copy/paste pics w/Safari, but not Edge. But w/Edge, the ad blockers work extremely well and not worth a hoot in Safari. I.Have.No.idea.

Seems odd I don’t have to sign in on TCTH and they have Word Press too, though it may be different in some way.

TCTH uses a different platform, although the software used there is similar to WordPress. Did you notice that you can’t like posts over there? Also, there is no notification system.

No Stella, seems to work seamlessly. I can even close out and come back later and it remembers me. I recall also they went dark for awhile cuz they were not in control. Afterwards, no site had any control over that platform, something to that effect.

I’ll try to explain better. Stella’s Place uses both WordPress.org software and WordPress.com platform. CTH uses software that is similar to WordPress.org, but not the same, and the platform is NOT WordPress. The sign-in procedures are different at CTH, and the interface is different. You can like COMMENTS at CTH, but not posts, which you can do here. There is no notification at all at CTH, but there is here (when it works; notification bell).

We believe (Sundance and the Admins, including me) that the reason WordPress kicked CTH off their platform is that CTH was too successful. What I mean is that WordPress only got a small annual membership fee, while supporting a huge commenting and viewing burden for them. They were losing money on CTH. They gave another reason for it, but that’s the truth. It costs a LOT more to maintain CTH on the new platform than it did on the WordPress.com platform. Many, many more times as much.

Mornin’ All. We are only in the 60’s, heading to low 80’s here. Perfectly clear blue sky. I had trouble going to sleep last night. I think the mess is getting to me. I need to make more progress on getting things put away. I talked to a representative yesterday about Medicare Ins. They don’t have a plan as good as the one I had in Florida, but it looks like I will go with an advantage plan again. I dread looking for another doctor, but it must be done. Well, on to opening more boxes. Have fun today.

Get a close doc in the box for everyday stuff – anything else comes up they can refer you on. That’s what I did.

Good morning, aus! I’ve had an advantage plan since going on Medicare. Supposedly Idaho has a doctor shortage, or at least it did a few years back. But so far, so good in my being able to find good primary care physicians who then send me on to specialists. My PCP in Los Angeles was a hunk…sigh!

Good morning all…..just checking in to let everyone know that the dryland prairie wheat harvest is about to begin. Poor rain, extensive hail and other extenuating circumstances have done a number on the crops within our area so it will be interesting to see the yield numbers this year.
Also, this past week I noted that last years wheat stores at 3 different foreign owned elevators in the area have been moved from silos and are now sitting on the ground and it doesn’t appear that any shipments are being loaded onto rail cars for transport.
Another round of high temperatures is expected here next week, which is great for the harvest season, but not much else….Stay cool everyone.

Good morning, litenmaus! Does it look like the wheat now sitting on the ground is just going to rot? Mmmm, with the various suspicious fires at food plants, etc. in recent days it sure makes a person suspicious as to any silo owner’s motive.

Afternoon Lucille….If there are no rail cars ordered, the next step will be to see if there are any trucks that can profitably truck the grain to the Oregon/Washington ports, which with diesel prices is doubtful. If that doesn’t happen by the end of September or if we get extensive fall rains, then yes, the wheat will rot.
I should have a better idea of what’s going on by the end of August, but we usually see wheat on the ground at the end of the harvest season, not at the beginning, so it’s an unusual situation.

Thanks for the further info, litenmaus! Let’s hope the silo owners are making every totally sincere effort to find a solution rather than letting the food just go to waste. If they can find no regular professional method of getting rid of the wheat, it’d be nice if they let the general public go in and take what they want. Don’t know the practicality of such a move, but perhaps it’s something for them to think about.

It helps when corporations are tied either to community or country. The decisions of corporations are largely driven by profit concerns. Or in the absence of profit, loss mitigation. Unless they can turn a profit, little else matters. A tie to a community, however can spur inventive ways of easing the impact of those decisions.
Government and insurance rules can also affect how companies are forced to operate in unfavorable environments. Like it or not, those rules can penalize companies seeking alternative solutions.
Sometimes, however corporations can be moved by “bad publicity” into doing something for public relations purposes which flows contrary to the usual rules of business. A short-term loss handled well, can turn into a long-term public relations gain.
Good suggestion for publicity, Czarina, both local and national.
It needs sorting out.

I had pierogis I found in the back of the freezer, with very ripe fresh tomatoes. Really very unremarkable frozen food. Long day at work, and I needed some comfort food.
