    Though the confiscated weapons belonged to his father, it seems to me his family was enabling the kid. I wonder if they ever got him any counseling or checked up on his online searches, etc.?

    One of my U.S. Senators, James Risch, sent out an email today re the illegal immigration crisis Though he’s a tad too much of a RINO for me, at least he’s on top of this issue.

    “A record number – 235,478 illegal immigrants – crossed the southern border in April of this year. The month of May broke that record with 239,416 encounters. June will likely set another record.

    “Since President Biden assumed office, illegal immigration has reached staggering highs. In FY 2021, law enforcement encountered 1.7 million migrants. In the first 8 months of FY 2022, over 1.5 million migrants were apprehended.

    “As the top Republican of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I released the report: Biden’s Border Crisis: Examining Policies that Encourage Illegal Migration. In it, I outline how the Biden administration has fueled the immigration crisis and the steps it needs to take to secure the border.”

    We spent about two days (a month was needed) packing things up to leave. We finally just quit, threw away things that probably shouldn’t have been, but we ran out of time. So my son stuffed the truck and my car as full as they would go and we took off about 11:00 PM. After a couple of hours, we stopped at a motel he had gotten a reservation at earlier. It was a really nice place, but he found out the next morning (I think he had overlooked it) that they had charged us $150 for the dog. He had credits or something for the nice place. Anyway, we took off the next morning and drove until he got tired and got a cheaper place off the freeway. So bad. Really bad. But, again in the morning we took off and drove all day, only stopping for fuel. Loki was a real trooper. She was very good and quiet. She loved staying in the motel. The third night we got a cheap, but clean place and all was good. We drove the next 20 hours because my son was like a horse going back to the barn. He was ready to get home. We pulled in at 2:00 AM Sunday morn.

    After we woke up, my family was going to church. I decided not to go with them. Something told me to go. But, I said I didn’t have any clean clothes. The voice said “Go”. So I went……in dirty clothes. My son had told me about the church and its’ pastor. It is a conservative Lutheran and he loves it there. I felt so welcomed and something strange happened. I have all these years not been able to sing in church because I would get choked up and couldn’t. I expected that to happen, but it didn’t. I was able to sing all the songs, and there were many. I took that as some kind of sign that I was in the place where I should be the moment. The sermon seemed to be directed at me, too, although I know whoever heard it felt the same. It was something like, when you are saved, that isn’t the end, it is just the beginning of your growth. So if you feel you aren’t everything you need to be, you aren’t because you are always learning and growing in Jesus. He also Christened his own new baby and it was the sweetest one I have ever seen. He had all the children who wanted to, come up closer to see. Anyway, having been raised a Southern Baptist I am not too sure about Baptizing babies. But, I am open to hear more about it. Also, he does the sign of the Cross and I actually don’t even know how it is done properly. But again, a small thing.So, I am really looking forward to becoming a member.

    After church, we went to my apartment, and unloaded the truck. My son had asked a couple of friends to help and one brought 6 of his 8 children, mostly large teens. They were so helpful and we had the truck unloaded in 1 1/2 hrs. Amazing. And, just nice kids who wanted to do more.
    Then we went back to my son’s house and sat out in the “cool” until a storm came in and then it rained. The next morning, July 4, the place my son works had a float in the local parade. I ended up riding in a July 4th float in a town I had never been to before. It is a very charming little town. Then, we went to a potluck for his work and everybody had a great time. After that, we went to another potluck by the people from his church. After dinner, we set up our chairs to sit near a field and saw a short patriotic video and then what looked like professional fireworks. We didn’t go home until midnight. I was half dead by then. Oh, yes, in the parade I had gotten a bad sunburn. Oh, did I mention that it was cool?

    So, July 5th, my DIL and I went to the apartment and started trying to set up and arrange things. We got a lot done, but there is still much more to do. So, I finally stayed in my new place. The closets are less than half the size of the ones in Florida. The living room is a strange L shape and will be hard to arrange furniture in, but I don’t care. It is nice and pretty place. It is great being with family again and they said they have had trouble all these years because it is hard to keep friends when you move so often. And, here, they have many, many real friends. Most of the families are homeschooling and are very conservative. All the people I met come across as very sincere and friendly. So, I am happy to be here.

      Thanks for the lovely update, aus! Very fun and heartwarming. It was wonderful to read of all the help you received from new friends and family. Bless them all!

      Your experience at the church is quite a relatable one. I often make a spectacle of myself using up a packet of tissues when the songs are being sung and definitely if there is a baptism or special interaction of clergy and congregation. If you have questions re doctrine, remember the Internet is your friend in that regard and many questions can be answered by people who are very happy to explain everything.
