So I’m driving from St Albans to Enosburg, VT. It’s about 38 miles and crosses the train tracks 18 times. The trains where there first, and they cut right through the hills/mountains, to be as straight as possible; the roads came later. They lost about 10 hunters a year, because all they had in those days was a crossed sign that said stop look and listen. I’m driving my brand new Corvair Monza coupe, filled with draperies for a motel in Enosburg. I supplemented my meager income by installing draperies for Sears, It was snowing pretty hard, there was already 3″ on the road, so I’m going 30 mph, and crossing a small bridge over a creek. I see one of those signs, and I’m aware that we lose lots of hunters by fatal impacts by trains, so I slow to 25 mph as I’m crossing the creek. I hear a tremendously loud horn and look to my left and see nothing, but when I looked right I saw the Queen Mary about 20 feet away. I was fortunate to have a rear-engine car, because I down shifted and slid passenger side to, into that huge engine, which proceeded to crush my little Corvair into an unusable hulk of metal. But I survived, unlike so many hunters. After dragging me down the tracks for maybe a hundred yards, the engineer jumped down and came running up asking me if there was anybody else in the car. Luckily, there wasn’t, cause that side of the car was flattened.
Pictures of trains in the snow, always cause me to reflect on how lucky I am.

Something like that happened to a woman I know. She was fine too. I have a cousin who lost a leg in a similar accident.

Mornin’ Wee, Pa, and everybody else. Ugly and rainy here this morning. I can’t understand how it can be so cold and 60*. We went out for our walk. It was raining a little, but started pouring as soon as we left. Loki had her little coat on and it kept most of her body dry, but her head and ears got really wet. And, the rain started coming down even harder before we got back. She has eaten and is now lying in my lap, probably to keep warm. It is overcast and now is still drizzling a little.
Anyway, have a nice day and stay warm.
