John Stossel: The Charity That Changes Lives

How about something positive today? This sounds like a great charity.

Government schools fail kids. New York City spends almost $30,000 per student, but get worse results than private schools that spend much less.

That’s why Student Sponsor Partners (sspnyc.org) gives scholarships to at-risk kids in New York so they can go to Catholic schools. SSP also provides a mentor for every student.

Jorge Aguilar’s mentor “planted the seeds in my brain that I could do big things in life.” He has. Now Jorge’s a doctor. “SSP,” he says, “helped me break the chain of poverty.”
