Svalbard – The Northernmost Town on Earth

Svalbard, which is an archipelago between Norway and the North Pole, was a coal mining town; you will see the coal buckets on cables at a certain point in the vid. But now that the mines are pretty much defunct, people are seeking other ways to make a living. Believe it or not, tourism was at the time this was videoed, a going concern. Being so far north, they are without the sun for four months at a time. However, it’s going to be a balmy 39F degrees today. There is also a video version with voiceover where I got some of this info, but I thought the narration distracting from the incredible scenery.

Mornin’ Lucille, everyone. Sunny day here, yada, yada, yada. Can’t spend too much time here, I am to meet my friend for brunch after her appt. We have already had our morning walk and Loki is fed and on her way to dreamland. 🙂
Mornin’ all! Sunny and 70 right now, but we’ll probably have t-storms this afternoon, as a front comes through. A bit cooler the rest of the week. I expect summer weather to wind down now that it’s September. My favorite time of the year, then.
