    Good morning everyone. It’s 27 degrees here, big, beautiful moon in the sky. Another good reflection from Bishop Barron today. Lent is coming soon. I wonder if there are any festivities going on in New Orleans.

    I remember the barrenness of Lent last year, culminating with watching priests offer Mass in an empty church on Easter. Boy howdy, did the Church in general and the bishops specifically fail that test. And the mass attendance numbers that were diving already plunged. They will never recover. In a few years even more old churches will be closed all over the country. It makes me sad.

    Poor Catholic immigrants all over this country sacrificed to build these wonderful, beautiful churches. In many cases they were discriminated against and persecuted for being Catholic, a faith they refused to leave behind in this new world, even to start anew and pursue a better life. We their descendants sell it cheaply these days, and most people see no need to tithe, to support a parish. It took considerable sacrifice for those parishioners who built the churches. For many of them today if everyone who attends services gave five dollars the church would be okay. But that average five dollars is way out of reach.

    I’m guessing this may be a problem in many denominations, but I have only seen statistics and numbers from Catholic sources.

    This year at least it looks like we will still be able to attend mass.

    THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

    MARK 4:26-34

    Friends, our Gospel for today features the parable of the mustard seed.

    How does God tend to work? From the very small to the very great—and by a slow, gradual process. God tends to operate under the radar, on the edges of things, quietly, clandestinely, not drawing attention to himself.

    C.S. Lewis speaks to this principle. How, he asks, did God enter history? Quietly, in a forgotten corner of the Roman Empire, sneaking behind enemy lines. How was European Christianity established? Through the handful of people that listened to St. Paul in Philippi and Athens. How did the mighty Franciscan movement come to be? One odd, mystical kid who heard a voice coming from a crucifix: “Francis, rebuild my Church, which is falling into ruin.” A handful of followers joined him in his quixotic project, then dozens, then hundreds, then thousands.

    So don’t be afraid to do small things at the prompting of God! Plant the seed, make the move, take the risk—take even the smallest step, and don’t worry about who notices or how much attention you’re getting. Sow the seed and leave the rest to the mercy and providence of God.

    Mornin’ all. Cold this mornin, about 50*. But, the sun is out, so the temp is climbing fast. Loki and I went for our morning walk, she had her breakfast, and now she is sound asleep. My big job today is to go to the library and renew my library card. So, I will be off soon. Have a nice day wherever you are.

      Mornin’ mom! It’s 25 degrees and sunny here. Brrrrrr! We still have a couple of inches of snow on the ground. Tucker doesn’t seem to mind it. He’s napping now too.

        I ended up not having to go to the library. I called the branch I wanted to go to because it is closest to me. When I told them I wanted to renew my library card, she said we could do it over the phone. It was actually just updating my personal information.

          That’s great being able to renew over the phone. I wish I could renew my ID card without having to visit the state office in person. In Idaho they are only good for three years, unlike California and Washington which is ten years.

      Dogs I’ve had are far less self aware than cats, IMO. It’s a rare find to see one that interactive in a mirror. Too darned cute.
      Reminds me of a time I was visiting with a good friend and her British husband was doing something similar. We laughed our butts off at him. Such a good guy and funny as all get out.

      A few weeks ago, DH came home and said he was sickly. He works with the public, so I came to the rescue with a dose of the horse paste. I always catch whatever he drags home, so sure enough, 3 days later I started feeling poorly. He was already feeling better, so I took 2 doses 2 days in a row. I was a bit ill for 3 days. Congested sinuses, sore throat, but no fever or cough. However, I totally lost my smell and taste for weeks! It was so weird. I couldn’t smell a thing. Not even husband poop! The only thing I could taste was sweet or hot. I’m slowly starting to pick up on smells and taste. Yesterday I smelled my perfume for the first time.

      I went to the Dr. office today for my bi-annual check-up, and the nurse said she was the exact same way as me. I asked her if she was going to take the vaccine, and she lowered her voice and said not anyone that worked in that office will take the vaccine including the Dr., but not to tell anyone she said anything. The Dr. never mentioned the word “Vaccine”. All of my bloodwork and BP was perfect!

      That horse paste is gross! But it worked for us!

    Good afternoon friends. Another beautiful day here in paradise with blue skies, mountains and sunshine, and not terribly cold, about 15 degrees. I love the blog banner photo today, Stella, it is very like the view from my living windows. The large mountain on the right in your photo is, for me, Mt. Spurr, an active volcano. The water body between me and Spurr is a bit larger than the one in the photo; I’m looking across Cook Inlet, which is a few miles wide on the western side of the Kenai Peninsula. If I ever figure out how to post photos, I’ll put one up (believe me, I’ve tried).

    I have a question for the more technologically proficient among us. Since the Treehouse is no longer on Word Press, I don’t have a black bar across the top with the convenient little bell that tells me when someone has liked or responded to a comment I’ve made. Is there something I need to sign up for to get such notices? It is such a pain to try to remember what post I commented on and look it up again to see if anyone did.

    Hope you are all having a good day, and managing to hang in there despite this crazy world we’re living in. I’m wishing for more Olive and Mabel videos myself. Just can’t follow politics for a while. Reading anything about the imposter in the White House makes me ill.

    Oh, also wondering if there’s been any word from Colonel Ken in a while. I continue to pray for him, and hope he is getting along. I never thought we’d lose Czar before the Colonel. I miss Czar every day; I can’t even imagine the level of bereft that Czarina must feel. I know she is reading here, and hope she feels up to posting a few words on how she is. Much love to you, dear sister!

      I am not registered or signed up anywhere so i don’t have features others have. I keep a bookmark on my browser and bookmark the pages where I comment. You can separate or sort them as you wish. I can just go back and click on the bookmark & it goes to your comment. I pretty much comment here and then 1 local statewide site just a few times a year.

      I’m keeping busy trying to get all the notifications and paperwork done. Some moments of great sadness and out loud crying when I get overwhelmed with missing him. I have plenty to do just keeping up with all the things that need to be done around here; fortunately his son is handy with machines, carpentry, and general maintenance things, and my brother arrived today to help him get our house in NO ready to sell. I have great friends who take my calls day or night, and people who work at my hospitals offer hugs daily. I get comfort from my friends here just continuing their posts about daily matters and observations. Thank you. And remember to let me know when you can stop by for a cold drink on the back porch…

    Afternoon all!
    Well, here was our weather when I left at 830am – it was 5 degrees with gusty winds bringing it down to minus 10-15 below 0. Thank goodness the sun was up by then! It’s still pretty darn cold and since the sun is starting to go down the wind is now picking up again. 😦
