Love those snowy mountains, Lucille. I’m gazing across Cook Inlet at some beautiful ones today. And had another gorgeous sunrise about 9:30 this morning. I love clear winter days! They are usually notably colder than cloudy days, but we haven’t had any really cold weather yet this winter. Haven’t been below zero a single time yet. About +20 today, which is chilly but nice. Hope you are having a great day!

New Pro-Life Congresswoman Vows to Stand Against The Squad’s Leftist Agenda
    By Virginia Allen – January 25, 2021 | 2:02PM WASHINGTON, DC

Freshman Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., is one of several new members of Congress who have formed the “Freedom Force.” The group of conservative Republican leaders says it will stand against the far-left agenda being promoted by the so-called squad led by fellow New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other liberal Democrats.

Stella, this is an excerpt from the article containing your “resist” photo-of-the-day…

Thousands converge for Women’s March nationwide – UPI.com
Jan 21, 2017 — The march was organized to protest the hate speech, the hateful rhetoric, the misogyny, the bigotry, the xenophobia of President Donald Trump.

And talk about “hateful rhetoric”…good grief! I just went to the UPI website and it is full of sickening language and false assumptions in their articles plus ugly intent against President Trump.

Good morning all. In my quest to decouple from Amazon, perhaps my biggest problem will be finding my books. Here are some alternatives, including audio books at the end.

Mornin’ all. Foggy day here for now. Going to lunch later. I spent most of the last 2 days going through 40 years worth of recipes that needed to be cleaned out. I hesitated to throw any out before because I was afraid I would want that recipe as soon as I did. 🙄 Threw out a trash bag full of paper. Feels good. 🙂

Mornin’ mom. We got fresh snow over night. It’s pretty, but I don’t like it when I’m in it.

    • I too want to get rid of paper as well as other items (downsize basically). I’ve been taking photos of paper items then saving them to a thumb drive as well as my computer. They don’t take up any space, and I can look at them or print them whenever I want.

Getting rid of other items is more difficult. Some I donate, but some more valuable things I don’t know what to do. I put various items into an auction about a year ago and in total it was a disaster with what i got for them. I believe the auctioneer lost or more likely broke some even though he would not admit it.

  9. Hi Stella 🙂
Just a question – Why did my last comment say awaiting moderation, then my avatar was not my usual pink face with glasses? I’ve seen some of Lucille’s pop up with a different avatar as well. Am I doing something wrong? My vision is a bit blurry today after too much reading the past few days so maybe I made a mistake.

I see it now. Your email address is misspelled. Instead of the letter “n” just before the .com, you entered the letter “m”.

      • Sorry, my bad. I’ll make the screen image larger so I can see better. I cleared cookies etc and tried again thinking it might be on my end, but that fixed the problem by my re-typing my email.

I notice many sites use times new roman, which I and many others find hard to read, versus ariel (easiest) or even verdana. Is it just customary, or do the host sites have you use times new roman?

The small, and in replies even smaller times new roman, is why i am not reading comments next door. It’s just too hard to read small font size in that font.

Thanks for letting my know the cause of my error. I’ll try to be be more careful. 😉

  10. Morning All ! 🙂
Since we were talking about mountains yesterday it brought back fond memories of skiing in the White Mountains here.
Here is a funny poster to anyone who remembers 1st learning how to ski

This is what it looked like where I skied. I loved the cold, super clean air!

this is Cannon Mtn where I skied

and this is view from the summit of Cannon Mtn. I never made it up that far of course! 😉

Ah yes, the snowplow! I remember it well (and the sitzmark). Those leather boots and bindings look straight out of the 1950s. I learned to ski in Colorado in the mid-1960s, when hard-shell boots were still a novelty and skies were just beginning to get shorter. Lines for the ski lift were nearly non-existent. Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs were my favorites. Big Sky, Montana was pretty great too. The good ole’ days! Haven’t done it since 1997, and really miss it.

      • That must have been great!
My friends were skiing crazy – what was it? 4 diamond or black diamond?- runs. I just wanted to enjoy it, so i stayed on the intermediate slopes. They were interesting without worrying about breaking your neck, unless of course you hit that springtime ice!

So for extreme skiers here’s some info on Tuckerman’s Ravine. A couple of guys I went to college with wanted to ski it, but were not willing to hike to the top with their skis. They wanted to have a helicopter drop them at the top, which I think maybe someone did, but IIRC they no longer allow that due to avalanche threat.
Here is a poster but the proportions are ridiculously off:

This is a photo from I think the late 30’s maybe 40’s. The proportions are still off because the people are so much closer to the camera, but it’s more realistic.

Here is a photo of 2 skiers who were skiing together and hit each other then slid down the ravine. They miraculously survived with no major injury! The red arrows point them out. This shows better the true size of the “bowl”. Not surprising on average every few years someone dies here. I obviously never set foot here!

Here is a photo in the summer. People also do (I’m guessing expert level) climbing here in the summer.

Hope you enjoyed our little visit to skiing in NH.
Have a great day – time to make lunch! See you later 🙂
