I used to listen to William F. Buckley sometimes. However, he used words like “athwart” and I couldn’t figure out what he was saying. Now, I looked up this word, but it still is hard to make sense of it.

I like the word “athwart”. In my mind’s eye, I see a giant spanning a chasm with his legs, hands on his hips.

In the years his “Firing Line” was aired I was a Democrat. But even then I was impressed with his word usage and his calm and witty demeanor. At the time I would never have thought he and his commentary would be missed. But there is no one around like him now producing intellectual content which is charmingly presented. Well, maybe Professor Jordan Peterson, the Canadian psychologist.

Yes. I thought I was a Dem back then, too. I disagreed with so much, though. I think I may have watched him because he was witty and sort of charming. I just didn’t always know what he was talking about. LOL
