Thanks for the wonderful pictures, Lucille and Stella. Oh, I wish I could just take a drive to the Smokies right now. Best I can do is the mountain rising up behind us.

Being blessed to live in such a wonderful area, every fall I go and just bathe myself in the beauty of the turning colors. Breathe the rich air. Stand beside the tumbling Tellico River. Hike around Indian Boundary Lake. Above all, stand on top of Cherohala Skyway and looks at the “smoke” rising from the valleys and mountains that are an endless vista of reds and golds.

I had taken for granted how much a few days in the fall feed my soul. My appreciation and love will be all the more acute next year. I think I’ll grab a room at the lodge on Fontana Lake and stay a few days.

Thanks be to God, who gives us beauty that cracks open our hearts and, for a moment, stops the world with its majesty and grandeur.

        Beautiful thoughts, Menagerie. Thanks!

My traveling is now via live feeds from around the world…rivers, lakes, mountains, railroads and street corners where on occasion I like to just watch the traffic. Reminds me of the evenings where my Dad would pile us in the car and we’d go to San Bernardino or Pomona or Santa Ana in California and just watch the people walk by (we called it “monkey watching”). Sometimes Dad would buy us ice cream cones and other times we’d merely sit and watch and talk about happenings in our lives at school or church. Funny how something so simple is remembered forever.

I was looking at a site earlier to answer a question: “Roughly how many American medical records have been hacked/stolen?”. Answer is:”somewhere north of 230-million”. Number is iffy as there are exclusions to reporting and, if the breach is fewer than 500 records, the breach doesn’t have to be reported until NLT 90 days after the end of the year the breach occurred in. That not only gives the breachee the ability to break a bigger breach into a number of breaches of less than 500 each but the ability to spread the reports out over months. There’s also the possibility of their ‘forgetting’ to report the breach over time.

Anyway, that wasn’t the issue – just an aside. Issue is that if it’s the Chinese stealing much/most of the records, as was insinuated some years back, then they have an invaluable database on American health issues that can be manipulated and interpreted at any level from local to national. If I were a PLA medical intel analyst I’d order in Chinese and spend days on end compiling data on health trends to use in effectively targeting/planning any potential biowar activities.

Whoops, there goes that paranoia again.

I remember when the Russia debuted radial keratotomy back in the early 70s. They paraded it as THE cure for nearsightedness and performed the surgery using on huge carousel surgical stages with a dozen beds or more revolving around a stationary team of surgeons, each of whom performed a single function in the operation. I believe that at least at one time they used obsidian knives in the process.

The press was agog at the unique and ‘cutting edge’ (was that dry enough?) technique but I don’t remember any of them volunteering to trek to Russia for the procedure. In fact there were problems in the long term with a lot of the patients who’d received the procedure, but that didn’t receive quite the same coverage.

Mornin’ all. I watched a lot of the hearing yesterday. The Dems are really out of their league. Barrett is a real winner. They should just go ahead and vote today. They are just wasting time.

In Poland they found a WWII unexploded bomb in a waterway. Here is what it looked like when it exploded.

I’d like to know what made them think that a bomb lying at the bottom of a river for some 70 years could be low-order detonated? Then again it is Poland..,(and I said that).

Today is NATIONAL DESSERT DAY! Here is our current favorite:
Dump a box of dark chocolate cake mix and a box of fudgy, triple chocolate brownie mix in a bowl. Put in the total amounts of eggs, water, milk and oil for both boxes. Mix per cake directions. We bake in a 9×13″ pan, takes longer than the directions say. Probably could make as cupcakes; might try that today. They don’t even need frosting, but you could… Very nice with ice cream….

The forecast has been calling for rain for the last few days but it didn’t rain yesterday, so I figured it was a good day to disconnect my water hoses & clean and store my outdoor furniture. Today the forecast is calling for rain, but…..it’s snowing….

Couldn’t have timed that better if I’d tried….

Yeah, I forget you northerners have to drain and put stuff away so the ice does not freeze and break the items. Here in the coastal south, not.

Good day, litenmaus! We got several days of rain and now the forecast is for sunny or mostly cloudy, partly cloudy days this week. I pray we have a mild winter like last year.

Maintenance comes around when it snows and cleans our walks, but usually after everyone has slogged through already. I’ve made it a practice first thing in the morning to clean not only the walk in front of my place but also past the duplex next door and then out to the street and over to the carports. I doubt I’ll be able to do that this year, but I do plan to clean in front of my duplex anyway.

On occasion I daydream that California had not been taken over by the elite brainwashed lefties and I moved back to sane weather patterns. Alas!

Ours was pretty mild last year; hoping for 2 years in a row may be pushing it, but I am! We’ve gotten all the hoses emptied and stored this year, but still have a few outside clean up chores to do. So glad we got a woodshed built this summer, and all the wood moved into it. First snow is predicted for next week, but that may change. We’re just starting to get below freezing at night.

:0) I remember the days of having to shovel off the snow to get to the wood pile so I appreciate how awesome your woodshed is gonna be for you this winter Tundra….

We had a mild winter as well and boy did we pay the price for it….There were more grasshoppers this year than anyone living here can ever remember having….. I know a hard winter would be good on that level, but my bones are definitely hoping it’s another mild one…. :0)

What a day. I watched as much of the hearing as I could stand. Amy Bennet (forgot if that is how to spell it) is a real winner. I just hope they can overcome all the machinations of the Dems to drag things out.

I seem to be able to comment and like next door…………at least today. However, I noticed something. Any new thread posts that come from next door or here don’t show up for between one and three hours. I didn’t get any notification of the rally tonight until just now. And, I can’t post …………well, this is hard to describe. I go from the reader page and I can post but I can only read comments that are posted before I open the page. So, I have to go to “visit site” to read any new posts, but I can’t comment without signing in again on each comment.

Stella, how do you read and work? You said that you don’t use the reader. Is there some other way? I used to have all new posts and comments from this thread come to my email. I only had new thread posts from next door because of the volume. Made a mistake once, what a mess! But, this Mac is different and that doesn’t work very well. So, I am using the reader, but it is a little awkward to move around. Any suggestions? From anybody? 😦

I don’t know, mom. I come directly to this page. I use a bookmark for ease of movement. I have no trouble at all. Since I don’t use a Mac, I can’t be of much help.

Aus, I had to hunt around for fixes when I got my new iPad. I do not know how old this post is, can’t see a date on it. I’m trying to find the stuff I did, some of which Ad rem helped me out with, and one final thing I googled. It took me forever to keep changing the wording of my search and find what I needed. I saved it but can’t find it now.

Try this first. Also, when you do type a comment from here, after you fill in your email and name, don’t hit post comment first, hit the WordPress W in the circle below the comment box, to the right. It should bring you back to the login and comment, then you post comment. After that you should stay logged in at least for the day. Occasionally it loses your comment, so copy it first if it is a long one.
