2019’s Hurricane Dorian turned Florida skies purple
Bluebell Woods in Surrey, England
Have a beautiful day!

I often stop to watch the skies and marvel at weather’s beauty and complexity.

I’ve always loved to look at the sky. That’s one of my childhood memories–laying in the grass and looking up at the cloud formations.
Here in the Panhandle, we can’t even see the sky. Smoke from all the fires has covered the sun for two days now. Air quality is zilch. I wear a painter’s mask even to take out the trash or get the mail.
My friends in Vancouver, WA can’t even see their backyards the smoke is that thick. I’m inclined to think that if many of these fires prove to be arson-caused, then the death penalty should come into play, especially if they catch the people setting them since people have already died.

Some who visit my home may have leave with unasked questions if they spent any time in my kitchen looking at the many great photos I have stuck there with a variety of magnets….
About half the photos simply feature a single massive cloud formation (thunderheads near our country yard in MN) or open highway scenes on I-90 between Miles City and Billings Montana (where, if you look closely, you will see antelope resting in the field a few yards off the interstate), or with clouds piled behind mountains somewhere in western Wyoming, etc. The other half are people pictures!
I love the open road and all the great scenery that happens there. Kaleidoscopic.

Here’s good news:
https://katu.com/news/local/evacuation-notices-reduced-in-canby-oregon-city-sandy
Riverside Fire (185,000 acres) still at zero containment, but the continuing much cooler weather and high humidity is huge help.

The smoke is so thick this morning I can see just to the end of my 25′ driveway. The street is quite invisible but there is good news there. Yesterday I saw a brief explanation somewhere that smoke is thicker when the fire is being extinguished because the volume of unburned particulates is much greater than when the fire is burning at full roar.

I was sent pictures yesterday from Prineville in the Eastern part of the state..the smoke has descended down into the canyon community and…the visibility is nigh onto ‘none’….
I have friends in a lot of the affected Oregon communities and this is horrific..thank you for your updates Sharon, greatly appreciated

How about releasing some good, old fashioned Army curses for this coming hurricane?

Good morning, WeeWeed. Be downright hilarious if they were all left over from some 1930s movie thriller.

Mornin’ everyone. It was so cool outside this AM that I was shocked when I stepped outside. It is up to 77* and it is almost 9:00 AM. I guess the humidity is low, which seems odd since there is a storm south of us and is affecting us now. Poor Louisiana and surrounding states. They may get hit again.

Good morning, aus! It’s 62 degrees here and I actually had to put a blanket on the bed last night to supplement the sheet and lightweight bedspread…felt soooo good.
All in all, I’d rather be exploring some beautiful, though pebbly beach…this one in Yzerfontein, South Africa

Shock Horror: Bob Woodward Says Trump Called Obama ‘Overrated’
Br Robert Spencer, September 10, 2020
Pearls are being clutched more tightly than ever on the Left, as passages from hard-Left “journalist” Bob Woodward, published in the Washington Post, show the loutish President Trump daring to utter a few critical words about his sainted, brilliant predecessor, Barack Obama. “I don’t think Obama’s smart,” Trump is quoted as saying. “I think he’s highly overrated. And I don’t think he’s a great speaker.” Why, how dare Trump tell the truth about the Left’s favorite naked emperor!

I just talked to my son. He was holding the baby who was cooing and watching the ceiling fan. He said their male lab who has not experienced a baby before really dotes on her. He said the dog can be in the other room asleep and if the baby sneezes he jumps up and runs into the room and licks her face and sniffs her all over to make sure she is okay. LOL
The three girls all look alike. People think the two oldest, 5 and 3 years old, are twins even though they are two years apart. He said the other day he was working and the 3 yr old was with him and wearing her big sister’s dress. He told her to do something and called her the older girl’s name and then the older one came in the room and he realized it was the younger he spoke to. I can’t wait to see them.

Yesterday I found myself up at the Canadian border and meandered through the fossil beds that are found along the Milk River.
It was surreal leaving behind the flat prairie and driving down into the banks and canyons along the riverbed…The landscape couldn’t be more different. The prairie is golden brown and the sky is vast and robins egg blue while in the canyons, the cliffs and bluffs are dark striated gray and the shadows seem to mute the sky.
..During the spring, the drug traffickers use this part of the river to float their goods in from Canada and being in the area is not safe, but in the fall the water level dries to almost nothing and the drug runners depart…It was fairly hot yesterday so the elk were bedded down and there were no wildlife sightings, except for a few errant herds of antelope up on the prairie.
All in all, a wonderful outing and a great reminder that there are still places where insanity doesn’t rule supreme….

I’d always wanted to visit the fossil beds and now I’m able to cross that off my bucket list. Definitely an enjoyable day trip.

One of my family members collected fossils. She had dozens she found lying on the ground. When she passed away her family was at a loss as to what to do with them and were afraid of getting into trouble for possessing them.
It’s against the law in Canada for private collectors to sell fossils because they remain property of the province. Even if you have them in your collection, you’re merely the caretaker. I think they ended up just taking everything back to the area where she found them.

A court ruling here in the US declared that fossil rights are a stand alone from mineral rights and at the time of the ruling different universities and institutions went around and bought the fossil rights to all the well known fossil sites here in the US.
The rights to the fossils at the specific area that I was on. were purchased by a University in the State of New York back in the day.
Signs were posted ‘everywhere’ in the Reserve with warnings that it was illegal to dig or remove fossils from the area…..
I know several of our of MT Universities have received ‘collections’ from estates so I don’t think your family members were alone in their quandaries as to what to do…..
