Stella, I wish I were walking down that country road this morning. Another wonderful picture, thank you!
Good morning and happy Saturday to all.

Mornin’ all! Menage – this thread reminded me of your post a few years ago.

I’ve posted before that one of the guys who we met post-K had told us how, at the OKC bombing, the dogs got so depressed when they went for hours and hours without finding anyone they were hard to get back ‘up’ to work. The smell of the dead filled the site but they couldn’t find live people, they were rescue and not cadaver dogs.
Someone finally got the idea of bringing the dogs off of the pile, hiding a rescue worker under blankets and letting the dogs ‘find’ him. It worked, they found a live person, they got their rewards from the handlers and they were much more ‘normal’ and focused. It worked really well for the WTC on the post-911 search…only problem there was the dogs started succumbing to the same conditions that many of the pile workers did.

If it doesn’t change (which they always do) we will be awfully rainy on Tuesday. Too soon to tell about wind.

Another one of those that tests…..oh wait, I’ve al;ready said that…
It looks like the track is, right now, directly over us, they’ve shifted it so that on Wednesday it’s a bit more curving north rather than slipping towards the Weed Patch. Issue seems to revolve around where the western edge of the huge Atlantic high is, each year it’s a game to see where that western edge will jiggle to and guide incoming storms.

Mornin’ everyone. HOT and HUMID here. What a week. My hip was bothering me to the point of having trouble getting up and down and walking. It has gotten better now that I have let it rest.
Then, my friend became convinced we had picked up bedbugs. She had a bunch of bites and I had three. But, I have gotten no more since I have been home. She has a bug person coming over today to check. I think it is spiders. Little tiny ones. ………………She just called. Not bedbugs. Outdoor spiders that got in the house. She has a maid, but evidently she doesn’t do around the ceilings. She will from now on. I always check the room and bed when we go someplace before I put down my suitcase. So, I felt pretty sure they weren’t bed bug bites.

When my oldest son was getting his workup for his liver transplant he had one test done in a branch of the main hospital closer to our house in NOLA., As we sat in the procedure room we both noticed a troop of about 50 smallish spiders march down the wall, from above the suspended ceiling, as a troop, and marched across the wall.
We pointed to troop out to the nurse when she came back, she blanched a bit, moved us to another room and notified maintenance. You’d figure that they’d have taken steps to prevent that but this place had a ‘rep’ that it seemed to keep even after being sold.

Much cooler weather and higher humidity continues in OR today. So that’s a blessing. The body count continues to grow – about 40 reported missing as of last evening.

It’s nowhere near you, I hope?

I am in Marion County. The evacuation zones start about 4 miles east of our little town. The burned out areas start about 15 miles to the east. There is a “break” (with no heavy woods) for a few miles east of town. I know many people, directly land indirectly who are under mandatory evacuation and some who are waiting to learn if their homes are gone. Our little town is completely dead-quiet. The smoke is so heavy today. Obviously no one has wanted to go anywhere … and there’s nowhere to go.
My son is in a Level 2 (be ready to go) zone…has been for two days and will continue to be for a bit more probably.

How awful. I hope most of them show up. I believe that it is more than rumors that antifa is setting the fires. I just wish they could be caught, tried and hung for murder.

This is how I want to travel on the train.

I have a friend who was President of an insurance company, and ran a contest for car dealers. The winners took the Orient Express from London to Venice (including my friend.) He had a wonderful book filled with pictures of the train. It is truly beautiful.

My friend told me there was a train here in the states that was similar to the Orient Express, but it didn’t do well because it was too expensive and so didn’t survive.

I love Murder on the Orient Express. Actually Poirot is one of the few murder mysteries I really like and it is because of the great characters in it.

I’m reminded of a trip my parents and my closest brother and I took on the Empire Builder (from Montana to Seattle) and then south on some “California Zephyr” or whatever – in the very early 1950s. That is my one memory of “eating in the dining car” at a time when the table service and menu was obviously special. I don’t remember the details, as much as I remember the feeling of it. It was good adventure for a youngster.
As we were working our way down through California, past Mt. Shasta, etc. I remember being awed by how BIG Mt. Shasta was, as my dad carefully explained how far it was from us. Impossible for me to comprehend.
And I never got tired of going to get a drink from the water fountain at the end of the car where there were little pointed paper cups that we would slip out to drink from.
We were headed for Southern California but did a stopover in San Francisco where my dad was anxious to have a reunion with an old Navy buddy (from WW I) who was now completely blind. I will never forget being taken on a tour of San Francisco by him and his wife – with her driving and him providing the narration, “Now if I have it right, you can look just ahead on our left and you will see…………” He took us all over San Francisco that way and never missed a detail. I know it meant the world to my dad to have the time with him and his wife after all those years.
I’m still watching the video, Stella! Just had to come and leave a note about the thoughts that were flooding my brain – –
