I believe these are one in the same. Malcolm became a Muslim and that didn’t fit in with what the Black Muslim hierarchy was teaching, so one could say he ‘woke’ and realized that the Blue-eyed Devil wasn’t the only one keeping the brother down.

Malcolm wasn’t all that enamored with white folk though the haj did change a lot of his thinking. He found Islam and not the system his NOI mentors had created and his speaking very vocal and open speeches on how the NOI was not Islam had a target pinned on his back.
