    If you believe the mainstream media, Donald Trump is involved in a nefarious scheme to somehow make the USPS into something inefficient and incompetent, which comes close on the heels of his plot to make the sun start setting in the West. If that’s his plan, he already pulled it off decades before he first hit the cover of the New York Post. We conservatives think the president has done a lot of great stuff since humiliating Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit in 2016, but not even the most hardcore Trump Train engineer would go as far as Trump’s frothy pie-holed critics and credit the president with the mastery of time and space.

    Yesterday I had the routine follow up appt with the oncologist that had been cancelled/postponed about 4 times since the original scheduling in May. Came in the front door of the large and lovely facility and was greeted by a tall and courteous young man standing right in the middle of the walk area, who said something I couldn’t understand from behind his mask. Turned out it was a forcefully cheerful greeting.

    He is waving his forehead thermometer thingy toward me so I comply by stepping forward and standing still. Then he scribbles briefly with a felt marker on a circular sticker and hands it to me. Not feeling real compliant now, I ask, “What am I supposed to do with this?” …..”Put it on your blouse, ma’am.”

    The sticker tells anyone who cares to look that my temp was 98 and the date was 8/19. Around the edge of the sticker in large bold print, it said, “I passed my screening.”

    And thus I gain entrance to the gulag.

    As I processed through the gulag, I saw that every single person who had been granted entrance, including all lab techs and oncologists, were wearing their very own sticker letting me know that they, also, had passed their screenings.

    They want to develop medications that will simplify the business of getting citizens to comply.

    The oncologist’s opening remark as he entered the room was, “So – what do you think about all the masking?” I just said, “Oh, there’s no way you have enough time for that…” So we moved on to other things.

    As we parted company some time later, he told me to make an appointment for six months down the road. I figured that was a no-brainer. I know how to make appointments. As I exited the hallway from the exam rooms, I was greeted by a large sign that said, “No scheduling of appointments. You may call us to schedule, or we will call you.”

    The medical industry is still not ready to deal with what they accepted in April and began to impose on the rest of us as the new law of the land. They are no more prepared (than the retail clerks in every store are) to be implementing public health policies and procedures handed down by the non-medical yahoos who occupy positions of authority.

    I’ve had to participate in 8 medical type appointments this summer (all routine, actually, but all necessary) and every one of them was an in-yer-face exercise in compulsion and compliance.

    So grateful I have no more appointments scheduled.

    My boss, who has wonderful taste in furniture, art and decorations, had Saaarinen original blue “womb”chairs and foot rests in his office. They were so comfortable.

      His father taught at Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, MI, which is where Eero grew up. I passed it most days on my way to work (when I still did.) It’s about 11 miles from my house.

      Charles and Ray Eames also attended Cranbrook, and were friends with Saarinen. Guess who also went there (at the boys’ prep school)? Mitt Romney.

        A number of years ago a woman brought some Eames chairs to the ANTIQUE ROADSHOW. Seems to me there were four chairs and they were worth a fortune. Oh, to have had a crystal ball when purchasing furniture and art back in the 60s thru 80s.

      I’m sure glad they fought back, and did it so effectively, however – – – – – –

      This essentially means they have now received permission from the government and the courts to participate in one of the basic freedoms asserted in the Bill of Rights.

      Obviously, it’s all a big mess. But there is a corner of me that thinks a precedent is being set that will be useful to the left in the future – – – that churches now can be expected to have to get legal permission and bear all the associated costs of doing that (over and over).

      I suppose it’s similar to what the NRA is dealing with all the time in terms of the right to bear arms, but it still bothers me that having permission to worship is seen as a significant victory. It’s a given that whoever gives permission is seen as having more power than whoever is asking for permission.

      As I said, I sure am glad that they fought back as they did.
