  2. Too tired to make dinner tonite so I decided to drive a mere 16 miles to Popeyes. Now we have full stomachs and a lotta leftovers. Now starts the fun of things to do with leftover Popeyes chicken though we’ll probably mostly stay with old standbys.

Hdey, if yer gonna drive 16 miles, one way, for bird you might as well make a meal of it.

      1. One of our neighbors brought bison down here to try and ranch them. He put up 6-foot fencing all around his holding pasture where the first batch grazed only to find out that a bison can clear a 6-foot fence with ease.

After a few instances of having to retrieve recalcitrant bison from the road and looking at replacing the 6-foot fence with a 10-foot one he decided it was best to find something else.

***Footnote: instead he built huge pens and bought some exotic foreign antelope but in an ‘OH S***’ moment one of the bucks ran an antler right thru his abdomen and came close to killing him. So much for his exotic ranching.

        2. That kind of stuff is best left to the professionals. We’ve got exotics all around us out here and about every 5-6 years, someone gets killed when animals do what animals do. That guy was lucky.

    3. During the summer of 2011 when Grant and I had closed the sale on our house and then had a couple of weeks to use for packing before we would be on the road to Oregon, we had hot weather. Lots of very hot hot hot humid weather. One evening – in a spectacular act of rebellion (for us) we drove 30 miles round trip to a Dairy Queen to get a couple of blizzards, just to cool down and because we needed a reward.

      It was worth it.

      1. We used to have a drive-in DQ just outside of the (then) small town where we lived in Utah. In the hot,dry weather we put the kids in the car and go there for various ice cream treats to cool off. Only problem was the seagulls would perch on the window tray and fight you for your food.

The last of the tomatoes on the plants on the back porch are mostly green, and we hope they ripen in appreciation of the brief respite from the hot, dry weather, since the guys on the TV plan for us to be dry and hot again for the next week….

    3. Ugh… I am sorry and I will pray for your speedy recovery. The ankle area is dicey, many working components down there.
I trashed my right ankle about 13 years ago(if you asked how, I would tell you, but it was not my finest moment) and still have the titanium plate and screws in there.
They don’t bother me, but they feel strange to the touch.
Make sure you trust your orthopedic surgeon. Heal well, heal fast. God bless.

It fosters creativity by awakening our senses while promoting the quiet necessary to make intuitive, insightful observations. Purple creates a harmonious balance of awareness and peace.”

  13. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. Here’s the report.

The ankle was displaced. Foot was completely sideways. The x ray showed that it was barely in the joint. The doctor, a really good foot surgeon, excellent rep and his PA just didn’t hide that they could not believe the ER didn’t do that. They did the reduction today, which is what they called yanking and pulling and twisting and pushing it into the socket, which would have been much easier Tuesday. Then he sent me downstairs for CT scan.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll hear about surgery. He called it either a 360 degree fracture or 360 involvement, pain, you know, I was not at my best. Ligaments are involved. CT scan will tell them whether he can do the surgery or if he will send me to his trauma team. Hope to know that tomorrow, surgery sometime between M-Th depending on who does it.

I got better meds for 3 days, then will have to make do with ibuprofen and Tylenol. I have no idea if that is going to be good or not, but as soon as I can I will cut down myself on pain meds. I really don’t want to depend on them, just need to get over this pain from today and I hope, now that it is in the socket that I’ll feel better.

    3. So sorry! Like Lovely said, did the docs say to ice it? Make sure you do not fall asleep because of meds with ice on it. That’s what happened to my friend and she had to wait till ice “burn” healed b4 surgery. Take care with those meds I know they make me very forgetful, so I also got off them 2-3 days after 3 break broken arm and another major surgery. My Mom slipped on a wet leaf one fall and broke many of the small bones in her foot. I know your situation is not the same, but I feel for you.

I keep a formatted word doc on my desktop with this on the top of the page. When ever I need to write something or copy something onto a word doc it pops up to give me strength. (Then I just save the new doc with different name & keep the template).
