Like our BD dog. Czar thought she was a carcass when he passed her on the road, then she lifted her head up. He brought he home, fed her cat food. Next day at the vet office she weighed fourteen pounds and the vet couldn’t get a blood sample she was so anemic. Even the fleas had left her! She gained fourteen pounds in two weeks, settled in as a happy dog with the other critters on the couch, and remains the guardian of the lake!

I’m currently watching a trainer work his black lab in the pond. She’s being taught to duck hunt, and apparently also she will, or has, enter competitions because he pointed out something to me that would automatically disqualify her, as he phrased it. She seems very far along in her training to me, and it sure is fun to watch her go!

Never see anybody hunting ducks on our lake. Czar doesn’t care for ducks.

It is just a little pond, sometimes we get ducks and geese, but today he was just teaching the dog. I don’t know what he was throwing for it, but the idea was to get the dog to jump in, swim across, retrieve the whatsit and come back. Too small a pond and houses too close to hunt.
Some years ago I had a couple of great ways I’d worked out to cook duck. One was a gumbo.
