              A friend brought home a turtle to cook and serve. It did not go well from what I heard. I was not interested in going the “feast”.

              Nope.

              I did have frog legs a few times, my thought was, it was more about the spices and breading because the legs were so little.

                Those big bullfrogs out of the swamp have huge legs but they take a lot of work to catch. I get turtle soup in the city at times, they mostly use big snapping turtles and if you’ve ever run into one of those things you’ll gladly eat it.

                  Ran into one on the road crossing a swamp once. I had my daughter with me at the time she was probably about 16. I pulled over to save it 🧐, it was dragging a huge piece of seaweed with it and hissed its nasty face at us .

                  So there we were deciding what to do when a big old pick up truck with good ol’ boys pulled behind my car, to see if they could render assistance.

                  I told them we wanted to get the turtle back in the swamp so it didn’t get run over. One of the guys picked him up and threw him like a frisbee into the swamp calling him a “dumb ass” as he flew through the air 🙂 !

                    One was crossing the main drag in town, had gotten bout 1/2 way across and cars were slowing and going around. He was persistent I’ll say. So I parked my car and picked him up. He was probably 15″ across, all prehistoric and hissing at me. I knew they have a terrible bite, so I grabbed way outside edges. Carried him across to a grassy area and sort of dropped him unceremoneously. He did not thank me….

                    Rude of him not to thank you! the one we saw was pretty big, we were less brave than you. Hopping up and down saying “What should we do!?!?!?”

                    At night the noise from the various frogs and toads in/around the lake can be dizzying. Folks who talk about the peace and solitude of being out in the country are either hard of hearing or don’t have a water feature.

                    I like all the sounds of the country and the lake except one. Chipmunks. Chattering squeaking chipmunks. We have a hawk (or 2 ) and they have made a great dent in the chipmunk population.

                    Sadly a hawk also ate all of the wood duck eggs.

                    No chipmunks here, we’re just out of their range, but plenty of squirrels.

                    Have you put wood duck nest boxes out in the lake?

                    That’s where it is, well not in the lake but right on the shore, so close that when the babies jumped out they would have landed in the water.

                    Baby wood ducks frequently nest in boxes placed into the lake, they jump out and float/swim. The only issue is if you have some very large largemouth bass, muskies, gar – those sorts of big fish that will eat baby ducks. Ducklings can float/swim right outta the nest.

                    It is a wood box and it is right next to the lake, (specifically made for wood ducks) I’ll post a picture tomorrow.

                    The area is simply a smorgasbord board for hawks and herons. I don’t know if we will out it up next year or not. It has never been a success 😦 . I’ll suggest actually putting it in the lake but the hawks will still be a problem. It is right on the shore line so if the duckings had survived they would have landed in the lake when they jumped out.

                    It’s always a game when you try to increase the presence of something you like. We put in fruit trees and the various critters rise to the challenge. We pout in a large law, the rabbits ate the heck out of it and multiplied and the hawks and coyotes picked up.

                    Agreed. The circle of life bother’s my mum more than anyone else. I really don’t like seeing the baby swans go missing, but nature is nature.

                    I haven’t seen the cygnets yet this year my mumsays there are 5 of them 🙂 .

                    Agreed. It is hard to see. Even the herons swooping down and grabbing a rascally chipmunk makes me sad but it is also what it is.

                    Yeah, those nature programs don’t like to the true dietary patterns of the critters,. especially birds. Birds are generally cannibals, I used to watch mockingbirds, pigeons and starlings gleaning fried chicken remains tossed by the side of the road. Those great blue herons will eat other birds too.

                    Herons are so pretty, but I ain’t a small critter on their menu. I haven’t seen them go after carp but I think that is just because of their size.

                    That’s why my 7 pound Iggy is never alone outside, herons, hawks, snapping turtles, foxes, coyotes….circle of life….

                    The cats are daring, three of them are cats who’ve lived outside and hunt way out into the brush. We’ve mentioned that the two Mickey cats will go for half-mile walks with us, especially if a dog comes.

                    Two of the dogs lived outside before they came to us and both are too big for anything but a coyote to mess with, 60 and 80 pounds. The terrierista, whom I’m sure has a bit of pit bull in his past, is a pack dog, she won’t go outside without one of us and stays close but she can go from lap dog to Tasmanian devil in a flash – which may cause her problems if she runs in to hunting yotes but as we’re armed when we’re out with her that evens the odds.

                    Yup, circle of life.

                    Yep. I can envision you, Czarina and your menagerie of critters walking through the woods.

                    My Iggy can’t be off a leash as she will just run and run and run.

                    She runs in my sister’s yard.

                    Most of the walks are down our almost private country road. When we’re out in the yard though the two Mickey cats will run over to where we are and hang with us…probably hoping that we’ll scare up a mouse or a can of feral tuna.

        It’s amazing how your mind interprets such art. If you really look at the brush strokes, you can see they are patches of white paint and blue paint, yet they look like reflections, too. Remarkable work!

    It’s 81 degrees and 90% humidity outside at midnight here. That tail on the tropical storm, even though it’s way up in the Midwest right now, is still dragging tropical temperatures and humidity up from the southern Gulf.

    Mornin’ all. I sure miss Nyet. Did he find the edge of the earth and fall off? Sunny here today. No rain expected. We went to restaurant yesterday and got to eat inside. The wait staff wore masks, some over their mouths, one under her chin, and another dangling. LOL They said people can’t understand them with the masks on. One of our favorite restaurants is now closed for good. 😦 Our theaters still haven’t opened. Hope they don’t go out of business.

    All our enemies are making a big push right now. We’d better start pushing back by getting rid of the federal government wimps running things. CAIR is still welcome in many circles such as brainwashed Pentagon officials.

      So now, debate is bad. So all judicial interactions, which are based on debate rules, must be stopped. Oh! Congress will have to dissolve since all their processes involve presenting ideas and rebutting them! OMG! The President will be able to rule by fiat, and no one can challenge him, since that would be against the new political correctness. There can be no political debates for any seat in the next election, much less presentation of ideas or platforms. And so on.

    And now for something totally different!

    For the second time this week I’ve seen a healthy, shiny adolescent gopher tortoise on our property so things are looking up. he longleaf pine we planted and brush clearing we did opened up protected denning areas and more browse so they’re mating. Our little contribution.

    More people having fun! This person is a local performer and generally flamboyant personage. Started weekly You Tube shows on April 5th. I could not download prior shows (old computer) so I will start with the one tonite at 7 p.m. It’s called Big Freedia’s Gospel Brunch, and is reported to be a hoot!
