Morning, all!
Sounds like Chicago’s government is in disarray.
‘What Are We Going To Have Left In Our Community?’ Aldermen React with Panic, Sorrow to Unrest
As unrest swept the city Sunday, aldermen pleaded with Mayor Lori Lightfoot to help them protect their communities from roving bands of criminals clashing with police and looting businesses.
WTTW News obtained a recording of an online conference call held by the mayor’s office to brief all 50 aldermen on the city’s response to the unrest touched off by the death of George Floyd in the custody of Minneapolis police.
While one alderman wept, others grew angry with the mayor, demanding to know what her strategy was to stop the violence that began in earnest late Saturday.
The call provides a snapshot into the city’s response as of midday on Sunday to the most widespread and damaging unrest since the uprising after the murder of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the police riots after the Democratic National Convention in 1968.
The recording begins with Ald. Michelle Harris (8th Ward) wondering how she could convince businesses like Walmart and CVS to rebuild on the South Side after the destruction.
“It’s like, what are we going to have left in our community?” Harris asks her colleagues before answering herself. “Nothing.”

Ald. Susan Sadlowski-Garza (10th Ward) broke down while pleading with Lightfoot for help.
“My ward is a s–t show,” Sadlowski-Garza said, adding that cop cars and banks were burned. “They are shooting at the police.”
Sadlowski-Garza began to cry as she said the unrest began about 11 a.m. Sunday, when a group of 40 people broke into a marijuana dispensary, but had nothing to do with a protest.
“I have never seen the likes of this,” Sadlowski-Garza said. “I’m scared.”
Sadlowski-Garza wept as she told Lightfoot new businesses had been destroyed, while other shops were being protected by owners with shotguns.
“This is a massive, massive problem,” Lightfoot said. “People are just f—–g lawless right now.”
Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th Ward) demanded that Lightfoot develop a plan to stabilize Chicago’s neighborhoods for five days, calling his Southwest Side ward “a virtual war zone” where gang members armed with AK-47’s were threatening to shoot black people.
The call came to a screeching halt when Lightfoot declined to address the substance of Lopez’s remarks, and Lopez demanded that she respond.
Lightfoot told Lopez he was “100% full of s–t.”
“Well, f–k you then,” Lopez responded.

How can you help but think the mayor wants this to be happening?

I have thought that since the beginning of the whole COVID thing. She does not care for the people she is supposed to protect. The fact that she would not even respond to Ald. Lopez’ suggestion proves she is not interested in doing anything positive. Hm. Reminds me a bit of Benghazi in that I think it was preplanned and help for the Ambassador and those who tried to help him was blocked.

I think you’re right. But the rub is what do they actually think the end is going to look like. To its natural end, the bad guys with guns take out a lot of good people without guns and very likely go after those with the power. If I were a cop in Chicago, I’m taking my vacation right now until this calms down a bit. Or look for a way to retire ASAP.

I really feel for the innocent people in that area.

This where it hits me. The shop owners, and the people who backed them, the people who have homes there, the people who worked in the stores.

I hope there is help coming from all different sides, not necessarily the government.

Something different… you have to stay with the sound effects for a while then it turns rather appealing New Agey….

Here I am, back a little. MD decided I have pneumonia, right lung. Symptoms fit walking pneumonia. Mostly I’m exhausted after a bit of effort like making the bed and carrying laundry to the washer, or sweeping a couple of rooms. Worst is inabilty to focus, so I can’t follow a TV program or movie, or read the paper.

I hope you’re better soon!

Glad to hear there’s some improvement, even if just a little. What people refer to as “walking” pneumonia generally means a viral pneumonia. Can take 2-3 months to really get over and back to normal, especially the fatigue part. The doc probably has you on antibiotics “just in case”, right? Prayers for you Czarina, that healing is faster than expected! You needs lots of rest and pampering, you know. And chocolate.

Czarina, love and healing to you! And a bouquet to brighten up the room…if flowers are permitted walking pneumonia patients…

And, even if you have allergies, e-flowers are great because they only have e-pollen and nobody is allergic to that…………………at least, I don’t think so.

Are you sure they can’t give you an allerg-E?

The octopus, it’s genetic makeup is almost alien in that its strangeness, intelligence and unrivaled abilities to become almost a transparency in camouflaging itself makes the scientific community wonder where it came from. On its negative side, it doesn’t live long in its natural world and it tastes GREAT!

Thought I’d get Czarina some fresh shrimp and boil ’em up. She’s not yet 100%, more like 65%, the pneumonia’s on the wane but it’s going out fighting. Anyway, thought the shrimp were bland enough and protein dense enough to pick her up.
Problem is we have this gray cat who thinks the world begins and ends with freshly boiled shrimp, only way to keep her out of my face is to either lock her outside or…feed her a piece from about 45-degrees off of her muzzle, She gets it caught on her fangs and it takes her a couple of minutes to get it off and eat it. I’ve been told we indulge our animals too much.
