We lost our beautiful, funny, loving, loyal white lab after 12 1/2 years at the end of January, before all the CV craziness, and my heart is still broken.
Our FedEx driver, good man that he is, befriended her by offering her a MilkBone whenever he had something he needed to bring up to our front porch. (And to get her attention off of him and onto the expected treat! Very smart!)
He’s been leaving dog bones with packages since February and I’ve been trying to catch him to tell him how sweet he’s been, but that she’s not with us anymore, but haven’t caught him delivering any packages… until today.
Having the door open for such a nice day, (I heard him talking on his Bluetooth as he dropped the goods), I ran to the door, looked and saw the package, and sure enough, a MilkBone waiting for her on top of it.
I called to him and told him thank you but that she was no longer with us. He says he suspected recently that something might have happened to her because she’s not been outside, but heard a dog bark and thought it might be her. What a kind man.
I’m so sad. She was SUCH an incredible animal. Until her age caught up to her, and her health necessitated our putting her out of her misery (which she seemed to indicate she wanted us to do with her pleading eyes and continuous barking) in her mind I believe she thought she was the size she was when we got her at 6 wks old, which was the size of her 12 1/2 year old head and she was as playful as she ever was.
I miss you so much sweet girl. I love you still and will always. I look forward to seeing you at the Rainbow Bridge.
Tears flow just thinking of you. ❤️

I know what that’s like, and I’m crying just reading your story. If it wasn’t for the incredible love and loyalty they give us, I don’t know if it would be worth it.

She’s our last pup, probably. Husband doesn’t want to go through the horror of putting another love down. He had that lone task with our first shepherd/lab mix, he and I had the sad task of putting our 2nd pup down years later, and now we both wanted to be with her at the end. We’re not up to starting over with another love, only to lose her years later, too. I can’t stop the tears. 😭 I need to remember the great and fun times and not focus on the kids. But it’s going to take more time than I thought. Thanks for understanding, Stella. Bless you and your kindness.

Most of our regulars here are dog lovers. We understand. I had to put down my last dog 3-1/2 years ago, after kidney failure. She was such a fighter and a brave girl, but just was worn out. The vet and I both cried. I did adopt another pup, whether it was a good idea or not! He turned 3 in February.

Enjoy the love he gives you. It’s some of the best we can receive. I’m happy you have that joy again.
