Morning aus. I’ve been busy for a Sunday morning. The youngest grandchild spent the night. I just want to put my Fitbit on him, see how many gazillion steps he takes per hour. Good grief, we are worn out. And he has only been awake about two and a half hours.

LOL There was a reporter who put a camera on himself and followed his young grandson around for hours doing what he did. I can’t remember if he made it until noon.

I have a rack of ribs defrosting in the oven, they’ll go into the smoker this afternoon. We’ll have ribs tonite and enough smoked pork and bones for red beans and rice tomorrow.
As seems to be the area’s luck, we’re expecting rain tomorrow so we’ll do the more traditional Memorial Day feed today with a more traditional Monday feed tomorrow.,

We had rain yesterday, but it is clear right now. Think I might make sausage and sauerkraut for dinner today. Did you ever have a grilled hamburger with sauerkraut? Really tasty.

My source of real fermented sauerkraut went south, bought out by a big city company that went all fruity with the recipes. I’ve got the stuff to make my own but I just can’t get around to it.
I’ve had it with burgers, in my family we had it with everything except ice cream, but I really like Popeye’s coleslaw on a burger or fish sammich.

I have a head of cabbage, and I may make some sauerkraut. I have some big jars and fermenter lids.

I’m having trouble making kraut. Both times I have tried after four or five days it goes pink with the bad kind of mold. I’ve thrown out two batches now and cannot find, in all my reading, what I have done wrong. All the recipes say it is so easy, and I’ve not had trouble with anything else I ferment.

I’m looking at a teeny-tiny fridge that will just fit my fermentor crock. Seems that each time (twice now) we acquire a dorm-fridge stuff from the main fridge just migrates to it while we’re not looking.

It’s sunny, breezy, and 86 degrees here in Michigan! Tomorrow it’s supposed to be almost 90 degrees. Summer has arrived, I guess.

It surprises me every year, but will probably go from heat to air conditioning in the space of a week.

I kinda snickered at that when I read it. Here, in the winter, I tend to flip back and forth between heat and cool. At least that is what I have been doing the last few years. It will be cold one morning and I turn the heat on, and the next day it gets humid and too warm again. I ran the heat 4 days this year, 4 separate days.

The difference here is that we don’t use A/C for several months – from September to May this year. The heat has been off for most of the past week here, and I think I will turn on the A/C tomorrow if it gets warmer than it is today.

For some weeks I’ve had my system on auto and lots of days we have had just a little heat at night and a little AC in the afternoon.

My system is old, and I have to select Heat or A/C (or off).

We don’t even have AC. There are maybe 4 days a year when we even think about needing it. When I lived in the Seattle area, nobody there had it either. Businesses and hospitals did, but not residences.

It’s pushing 90 here. Hot week coming. Looks like summer is finally here, we have had such a cool spring and I love that since the rain let up.

Good evening all.
Had quite a commotion on the street where i live today. All of a sudden there were cars, car after car after car, sounding their horns, blaring out music, all cars being decked out in red white and blue.
Every car had a kid or kids hanging out car windows, riding on roofs, in truck beds, kids yelling and laughing an making noise. American flags flying from the cars.
In amongst the fray was one of our town’s largest fire trucks, air horn blaring, and police in the parade, flashing lights and siren.
This went on for over 15 minutes. Did not take long to figure out, these were our town’s graduating Seniors of the Class of 2020, denied their graduation.
This was so fun to watch, and listen. What a cool idea. And the kids had a blast, as they should have done.
These Gen Z kids just may turn out ok after all.
