The Supreme Court of Texas has ordered Shelley Luther be released from Dallas County jail!

pj media:

On Tuesday, Shelley Luther, a mother and the owner of a hair salon in Dallas, Texas was sentenced to seven days in jail and ordered to pay a $7,000 fine. Her crime: daring to open her hair salon in defiance of local shutdown orders, so that she and her employees could feed their families. In response to the absurd sentence, both the governor and attorney general of Texas issued statements calling for her immediate release.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Texas ordered that Shelley Luther’s release from jail.

Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order retroactively eliminating jail time as a consequence for violating the state’s coronavirus restrictions just prior to the court’s decision.

She is a National Hero to the Conservatives. Her business is going to grow by 100%. Trump needs to invite her to the WH. Kind of disappointed that Ivanka has not spoken about her being that she is into the womens movement.

That’s wonderful! There is well over $500,000 in the account collected for her. The judge is obviously not a Constitutionalist. So glad she spoke up in court.

Not meaning to overly dump on Governor Abbott, but why was this ruling not in his initial executive order?

“but why was this ruling not in his initial executive order?”, afternoon Lucille.

I am guessing that it was a small technical oversight caused by the need to quickly put together the executive order.

Well, it probably never crossed their minds that anybody would want to arrest and put in jail somebody who did something like this. :\

I think the governor was working in conjunction with the Supreme Court which was, after all, overruling a judge. What the governor did is make sure that nobody else is arrested.

T’aint unusual for a politician to use jail as a weapon to scare someone, they’ll even jail a target’s family members as a lever. There’s a political nexus between her and Flynn, damn near everything’s been weaponized by our Dear Leaders.

In the same vein the Orleans Parish DA’s office has been issuing phony subpoenas to force victims of crimes, especially rape, to testify. They say they are real and threaten jail time if the issuee doesn’t come to court and testify but they aren’t real as they’re prepared in the DA’s office and never went to the clerk of courts or a judge.

Thing is that some victims are scared to death to testify because the new normal is the perp’s friends or relatives threaten the vic’s relatives/friends if s/he testifies and enough relatives/friends/witnesses ARE murdered that folks be taking the threats seriously. The DA’s office can (not will) protect a witness while the trials going on but after the trial, unless it’s a really REALLY big case, you’re on your own.

These phony subpoenas are an illegal tool to force testimony from unwilling victims, especially rape victims. The DA’s been called on it by the courts and rather than just say: “OK, we screwed up, we’ll quit and not do it anymore”, the DA’s fighting the court that said ‘stop!’ in court. He’s got the cajones to tell the judges that he has the right to usurp one of their legal functions…illegally. He’s going to fight for the right to illegally use an illegal court document as a weapon to force testimony. Oh yeah, he’s using tax dollars to do it. He’ll lose, he knows it, but he’s gonna fight it anyway. The whole system’s screwed up.
