One of my favorite YouTube channels. It’s Spring, and time to think about growing a garden. You’re home right? If you are able and have time, growing food is good for you and your family. You can grow something almost anywhere.

I’m going to start some lettuce and beets outside this weekend, and some seeds inside!
ADD: Lucky I bought a lot of seeds last year, and some more already this year.

My carrots and onions are in, and my beans MIGHT be in later today, if I get the frame strung. The dozen tomato plants are awaiting mega-weeding of their area….ugh. Sore back time.

Won’t have tomatoes outside for at least 2 months here.

At the moment, being able to plant tomatoes right now is about the ONLY good thing about living in California.

I can start seed pretty soon, but no tender plants outside for a while.

In Utah they build cold frames using old windows, which allow plants to get warm sun while the outside world is still unfriendly.

You can also sprout bean and grains too, great on sandwiches and some soups.

I’m not sure she mentioned that here, but has in other videos. She did mention microgreens.

There’s stuff like dandelion out in the yard you can eat…if you haven’t hit it with Roundup.

A little bit too early yet for dandelion greens here. I’m no longer using weed killer on my grass, so it’s a possibility!

I’m always surprised at the expensive salad greens appearing on the market that just a few years ago were considered weeds.
You can also make a passable wine outta dandelion blooms.

My aunt made some: it was an unpleasant yellow color, and not tasty.

It’s supposed to make you tipsy, doesn’t necessarily have to taste good.

Did you know that you can eat tulips? Daffodils are poison.

I know a number of flowers are edible and most bulbs, including onions, are poisonous to dogs but I’m not into growing flowers for food as I can’t spray them and bugs out here are aggressive. I do have about 2 dozen saffron
crocus growing, we’ll see how that plays out.

Or you can just open a can of chili…with or without beans.
