Picture reminds me that the boggy treed area that runs along our property and shields us from the road has ferns taking hold. They’ve been coming in for about 3 years and are spreading. We’ve planted some moss there too and hope it takes hold and spreads, should make the area more lush.

We had lots of ferns growing in the woods at the cabin. I loved seeing them come up through the ground and unfurl.

I have a small patio with about a 2 ft planting area around it. I worked and worked trying to keep some low flowering plants along with some big bushes growing for years. I came back from a week long trip once and found a few leaves of ferns in among the plants. They came from the other side of my fence with a neighbor. Their ferns were in a pot. Anyway, I like ferns and left them and they have completely taken over the planting area on all sides of the patio.

Our road is wild trees along both sides well past our property and the ferns and moss growing in the dappled shade under the trees just makes it all so relaxing.

Good afternoon, WeeWeed! After the 24/7 life as the gatekeeper, Nick is ready for the pasture. I’d wager he won’t be disloyal like John Kelly.

Morning y’all. Can’t remember where I found this, I think it was on Facebook, but if it was here, apologies, and it is worth another look. Who ever knew I’d listen to this song more than once?

OK, so….my grands are actually watching this clip and I start being the natural born goof I am. My better half asks what all the noise is coming from the computer room when my granddaughter responds..”It’s papa dancing like Fred Upstairs”.

Nice here too in Southeast Michigan. My daughter reports from Chicago that they have cooler and rain today, so that’s what we will probably have here tomorrow.

Good morning all!
I heard from Col.(R) Ken this morning. He has had some medical issues, but is hanging in there!
Sunny and spring-like here this morning. My black eye is healing, but looks worse.

Stella, good to know you’re healing even if the eye looks like a horror movie character’s.
Glad to hear Colonel Ken is keeping on keeping on. Tell him I’m (and I’m sure others) praying for him. Thanks!

Yeah, the eye looks pretty awful!
Ken is having some difficulties, but the docs are working things out, I think. He said “thanks for kicking my butt” in answer to my email. I told him that we care!

Mornin’ everyone. Overcast here. We are going to spend next week at the beach at my friend’s timeshare. She says we always have a cold spell that week. LOL Although, right now the weatherguessers are saying it will be very nice. We’ll see. Hope all you guys up North have seen the last of winter.

Can anybody help me? My toolbar moved to the right side of the screen and I don’t remember how to get it back along the bottom of the screen. 🙄 I don’t know how it ended up on the right, either.

I have discovered something I find interesting. When I order my groceries on the Walmart website, there is a picture and a description of what I am ordering. When they let me know that the order has been pulled and is ready, I get a list of whatever I have ordered and a list of any substitutions. I have now noticed that there have been some interesting substitutions. It is the same item, but a smaller amount. So, the manufacturer didn’t raise the price, but lowered the amt in the package, thereby raising the cost.
In the past I think they have been able to do this without any fanfare or the customers realizing it for a while. But, there it was in black and white, the two identical items next to each other and the only difference was the change in amt. Aha! Caught ’em.
LikeLiked by 2 people
That’s interesting. The way my Shipt shopping works, I have the shopper text me and ask about substitutions. I can reject completely, or specify what substitution I want. I can also do this ahead of time in a text instruction for each item. Also helps to give additional guidance for those shoppers who have a problem identifying the correct produce item.

I never speak to a shopper until they bring out my groceries. However, if I have checked that I will accept substitutions on an item, they always point it out and I can accept or not. It was just that I hadn’t realized until last night that some of the items that have become unavailable might be because of this amt change. I usually order off My Favorites list because most things I order over and over and it is very convenient. Now I will be checking to see if it is only an amt change if it becomes unavailable.

Good tip! That is a very common way for manufacturers to raise their prices via stealth.

I order from my “Buy Again” list too (similar to “Favorites”.) I have the most problems with produce items with my shoppers. Different kinds of tomatoes, lettuce and citrus cause the most
problemsconfusion.Just got a text from my shopper. No 91% isopropyl alcohol available. Wonder if they have any toilet paper left (I also ordered some from Amazon, and their selection was limited.) Coronavirus, you know!

Upgrade to larger pack of the toilet paper; mega rolls instead of double rolls.

LOL The mega rolls don’t fit in my dispensers. I bought a huge package and thought I would never use them all up.

I prefer the mega rolls. We have free standing dispensers, so they work fine.

Mine are against the wall and barely will take a double roll.

I actually prefer them too. I ordered the other because they were on sale.

I don’t get fresh vegs or meat from Walmart. I have to drive right by Publix on the way to Walmart, and I stop in there for those things. Also, I have to pass right by a veteran who sells produce out of his truck and it is always the freshest of all. The Walmart vegs seem to go bad faster, although, a few times I have ordered some and they seem much fresher coming from the shopper. I guess there are two separate shopping areas for them. I had envisioned the shoppers running around the store finding things, but I don’t think that is how they do it. I think they have their own supply.

My market, Meijer, has very good produce, and even local produce in season. Unfortunately, local produce is many many weeks (or months) from now.

You never can tell where it comes from anymore. Publix has some marked local, but I see it from Mexico and California, like oranges, even in season. 🙄

The meat is okay too (they have great chicken), but their fish (other than frozen) is terrible.
Fortunately, I have several choices for same day delivery – Costco (I order salmon, rotisserie chicken and ground bison from them), Whole Foods (this is recent, and I haven’t yet ordered from them), Target and Kroger (haven’t ordered from Kroger yet either.)

CLosest Kroger down here is in Dalton GA, which is now at least an hour away. I used to go there occasionally when I lived in Ringgold. It is the nicest grocery store I’ve ever been in and I could spend two hours in there poking around.
The downside to where we live now is no grocery store in the neighborhood, which is really weird for me. There is the mandatory Walmart close, but I very rarely use their grocery, I hate their produce. Aus is right, their vegetables go bad so fast.
The other choice is a Food City is a nearby neighborhood, and they are the worst in town. They build nice big stores and merchandise them pretty well, but every single time I’ve bought produce there it is rotten in two days at most. They are really bad to hide bad produce in packaged products, so you learn never to buy any produce but loose, which is what I usually do, but occasionally if I only need one or two items, squash and zucchini, for example, I will buy them in a package. Anyhow, I resent being robbed, so I won’t shop at those stores except in emergencies.
Good news is they are going to build a Publix not too far from us. Bad news is that the sign has been there since we moved in and no construction has started.
Usually I drive west to the little town of Jasper (I hate Chattanooga traffic) and shop at the Ingles, which we had in Ringgold and I know and like. Or get Publix to deliver, but I haven’t yet grown comfortable finding and ordering what I want online. Sure saves me money though. I am a horrible impulse buyer.

I am an impulse buyer, too, along with being a forgetter. So, shopping on line has helped cut down the trips to the grocery store or Walmart since I can add things as I notice I need them and I don’t have to go back to pick them up.

That’s what I do too. It’s like a grocery list!

I order weekly from the regular Walmart.com, not the exclusively “grocery” same-day-delivery for perishables section. For whatever reason, the grocery part will not let me complete an order even though I’ve had a regular Walmart account for years.
On the non-perishable delivery section I ordered some kitty litter and 2 containers of 12 Arizona Tea product. The box was scheduled first for delivery on Thursday, the 5th, via FedEx; then it changed to Friday and finally arrived battered at 8:00 PM on Saturday.
I was praying that the lid hadn’t come off the kitty litter…it was fine. However, one of the aluminum cans was pierced and soaked one of the multi-packs. FedEx had to completely re-box the 3 items. Both tea boxes were ripped open with the offending aluminum can removed. In addition, all of the other cans had small dents like someone had been playing a game with them. What in the world!!! FedEx Football, anyone? Hahahahaha!

Morning Stellar friends! It’s that time of year again. IDITAROD IS ON!! The official start of the race was yesterday afternoon at 2 pm ADT. The big news was weather. We got hit with a big snowstorm and snow was falling at the rate of 3″ per hour. Lots of fresh fluffy white stuff slows the dogs down, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Leaves more “gas in the tank” for later. Run times to the first checkpoint are averaging about an hour slower than last year, when the trail was hard and fast.
The three mushers I am watching closely this year are all friends: Aliy Zirkle, Pete Kaiser, and Jessica Klejka. Pete is the reigning Iditarod Champ. And he is making a statement right from the get-go. He started in 9th position and marched right to the front of the pack where he remains. Time will tell whether he can keep it up.
Aliy started in 23rd position and has moved up to 16th. Jessica started 41st and is now 25th. Starting position is randomly drawn, so the first hundred miles of the race is a constant jockeying for position as faster teams move up to establish the front end of the race.
Thrills, chills, spills and excitement all to come! Iditarod is on! The Last Great Race On Earth!

Monday Schadenfreude: Plame flames
By Charles Sullivan – March 9, 2020
Whoever wins the Democrat primary on June 2 for New Mexico’s Third Congressional District will be an overwhelming favorite to win the general election in November. It is very unlikely that Valerie Plame will be that person. She probably will not even make the Democrat ballot.
