It’s Doggityday!
This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Bookmark the permalink.
As our Betty Davis-eyed blonde hound stares at me over the back of the couch, suggesting I bring her her treat rather than make her come to the kitchen for it, she asks: “And what makes this any different than any other day?.

Like Caturday for cats, every day is Doggityday for dogs.

My little dog always gets a treat when I leave. Lately she has started to encourage me to leave. Whenever I walk from one room to the next, she runs at me, barks, runs to the treat cabinet then runs to the front door….

That’s funny. I wonder if it would work with Tucker. He gets upset when I leave.

That’s why I started giving her a treat, she would whine and get nervous, now she is like “Go on ! Get out of here!!”

LOL That’s funny. 🙂

K-9 handlers know that if their dogs go for so long without ‘catching’ someone/thing they’ll lie’ to get a treat. Funny as long as it’s not you the dog’s lying about.

The latest adventures of Loulou and her puppies…
Staring eyes of dachshund puppies.
Note from Loulou’s Mom: Everything is going so well and last Sunday the first 2 future owners came to watch the puppies. This was a great day and we have a good feeling about it. We are still going to sort out all messages for other future owners. But we take all the time we need.
Loulou is still wearing her medical romper when she is with the puppies. These rompers are used after surgery to replace a plastic hood on a dog’s head, but it also helps to prevent nursing.
All our other animals are also doing very well, when I have more time I will show them more in the videos.
Xxx Eveline

I have to take my dog to the vet today. I don’t think I have long left with him, maybe weeks or a few months would be my guess. I have been blessed with a fantastic husband, three fine sons, eight grandchildren, and a huge extended fun, nutty, close and loving family. I will never dismiss that, for it is the biggest blessing ever, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite as loved as Riley makes me feel, which maybe has a deeper meaning because he was the 30th anniversary present my husband gave me. He will be 14 in April.
Dogs are best at pure love. I guess because they come with no judgement or expectations for you, other than feeding and loving them back, maybe tossing the ball sometimes. Dogs love us best.
I love him very much, but in my heart I know that I have returned to him only a fraction of the endless well of love and affection and joy he has given me.

My heart aches for you, Menage. One of the hardest things there is.

I can empathize with you. It was hard watching my little doggie as cancer took over, knowing that the time would come, and trying to give her as much time as I could.

So sorry to hear this. I felt the same way with our dogs, although I did have a couple of favorites I cried over a lot longer than various relatives. I am sure your pup thought you were the best thing since sliced bread, or even better, the best things since sliced roast beef dropped on the floor! He was blessed to have you and your extended loving family as his family.

I believe the love our darling dogs give us, and engender in us, is a gift from our God. There are some dogs who seem especially gifted. Maybe it’s a glimpse of the love, peace and harmony that all creatures experienced in the Garden of Eden.
Bless you and your doggie pal, Menagerie. May God give you His peace in the coming days.

Oh, dear friend, I am so sorry for what you are facing. Dogs are one of our greatest gifts from God. You’ve had such a long run with Riley, and that’s a blessing. I pray the vet can help you find a bit more quality time with him. My black lab Gracie turns 8 this summer and I already am starting to dread what will inevitably come. I can’t imagine not having her. Saying a prayer for you both.

Yes. The best breed of all. I think I can never be without one.

So sorry Menagerie. A picture of my (favorite most wonderful dog ever ) just popped up in my memories.
It’s so hard letting them go. I still miss her looking out the window for me when I get home.

Bipartisan bill to let VA fund service dogs for veterans with PTSD passes in the House

At Westminister last night there was a beautiful and moving video played about service dogs for vets with PTSD. The German Shepard Dog who won Best In Show a few years ago has provided three litters of pups for this program. A vet who received one of the pups was honored at the show last night with his GSD. Had me in tears.

And the standard poodle won Best In Show at the Westminister Kennel Club show last night.

I was disappointed. For once I thought the golden retriever truly had a chance. He was gorgeous, behaved beautifully and had the “it” factor. He won the Sporting Group with a massive roar from the crowd. A golden has never won Best In Show.
Of course the border collie won the agility competition. They always do. There is no faster smarter dog in agility. The 2 minute video of her running the course (at the link above, scroll down for it) is phenomenal. I did agility competition with my first dog Pepper about 25 years ago, before I came to Alaska and fell in love with dog mushing. Some of the obstacles are really difficult to teach a dog. Weave poles especially.

Now the dog mushing news! Allen Moore just finished the Yukon Quest about 10 minutes ago! Yay Allen, yay dogs! As expected, he finished in 4th place. There was no neck-and-neck sprint to the finish (which is always exciting); Allen was 40 miles ahead of the team behind him. The Red Lantern is still trudging along; Olivia Webster has over 200 miles to go, and is 60 miles behind the team ahead of her. If she hangs in there, it’ll probably be the weekend before she finishes the race.
I haven’t talked to Aliy since the Quest began, but I’m sure she’s in Whitehorse to cheer Allen and the dogs. Many of the dogs on Allen’s team will run the Iditarod with Aliy next month. It is amazing the levels of endurance these athletes achieve. Running two back-to-back 1,000 mile races competitively is an incredible achievement. Awesome dogs. Congratulations Allen and team!
