LOL Ask and you shall receive. I had just seen part of this speech on TV and I thought, “I wish there was a body language video of this.” I was concerned about the officer to our right. His eyes darting around. His expression never actually changed, but his eyes would watch Trump at times. I hadn’t noticed the things that she pointed out about Trump. That was interesting.

Quite informative and interesting. President Trump is not a naturally gifted public speaker and has an unusual way of speaking in public, repeating phrases, pausing, etc. At the same time, though, he loves to communicate. He also likes to have eye contact with his listeners. And the way he keeps that contact in a large crowd like at the rallies is to go off script. This natural inclination to stop reading the teleprompter and make an aside to get closer emotionally to his audience could not be done with the kind of uber serious speech he needed to make here. So, he felt awkward and out of his element.

If I recall correctly, some fired cabinet member or staff person said President Trump isn’t good at memorizing and was severely critical of him for that, indicating he was not very bright. Excuse me, but many talented people aren’t good at memorizing. That’s why you see a lot of speakers choosing to read from a script while standing behind a lectern. It doesn’t make them stupid.

Years ago I heard that Marlon Brando had to have dialogue cheat sheets all over the place when he was filming. Someone at CTH recently posted photos of him reading the sheets while making THE GODFATHER, confirming the stories we’d been told. Brando was actually NOT a good public speaker. What he was good at was emotions and saying his lines with an emphasis which brought out the emotions of his film audiences. He was a naturally gifted play actor audiences could relate to.

Though I never saw any APPRENTICE or CELEBRITY APPRENTICE episodes, apparently Donald Trump was very good in them because he was doing what came naturally. He was the boss others were tying to impress or convince. I think he’s a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of person and appreciate that immensely.

The guy on the right is a 2-star, he was probably nervously looking about at the three and four stars to make sure one wouldn’t defensively and suddenly reach out and eat him in fear of him taking his slot in the pecking order.
