I ain’t even gonna like this, I’d trust a Democrat before a coyote and my solution for both of them is much the same.
Ther owner may have lucked-out, gotten a very submissive female at a very, very early age and hand-raised it but that’s very rare. In most cases the owner or other pets just haven’t been bitten yet. I’m not a coyote fan.

That’s sorta my point. I have a coyote rug-mount that was from one who’d, in the mid-70s – come into town and went after a cat on a homeowner’s front porch. The homeowner’s 10-year oldish daughter had gone out on the porch to rescue the cat
and come between the coyote and the cat. The coyote was sizing up the little girl when we got the dispatch call to respond and as we were only a few blocks away we arrived within minutes.
When we arrived the mother was in the doorway screaming at the coyote, the daughter was holding the cat crying and shielding it and the coyote was baring its teeth, growling and screaming and not giving ground, at some point it was gonna get that cat and probably the girl too.
There was no position to shoot so we got a couple of ropes on it and it was taken up to the pound where it was held for a rabies check. Like all coyotes caught in the city it was euthanized as it had lost all fear of humans so I got the pelt, had oit taxidermied and it’s the only coyote I’d allow in my house.

I know, Z – we had a little ol’ lady in our neighborhood in Slowdeatha out walking her little dog one day and got surrounded by 3 of ’em – all after the dog – so she picked it up. Nine hells ensued but being TX a handful of neighbors came out armed and took care of it.
I DO believe “cat” is their favorite entrée, however.

Wait a minute, did you mistype that, or is there actually a town called Slowdeatha!?!?

Some genius bureaucrat in IL put a dog park in right on the edge of a hawk sanctuary. Need I say any more ?

Spent much of the AM acting as doorman for three cats. Who’s got who trained?

We have a steady 20-25 MPH wind with 39% humidity…laundry’s drying almost before we get it on the line. Dog sare outside sitting facing into the wind, ears back and getting a shotgun hit off of whatever smells the wind brings in, It’s a welcome change after three days of gloomy clouds and two days of rain that lefty 4″ in the gauge.

Stella, I love that Caturday photo. If I had a cat, that’s what it would look like about now. Also love your New Year 2020 blog banner photo. Great choices! Thanks for all you create here for us.

You DON’T have a cat?!?!?! Pray tell how did you avoid that honor?

After nearly a lifetime of feline companionship, my last cat died about 10 years ago. Alaska is a tough place for cats, unless they are 100% indoors which I don’t think is fair to them. Many of the cats you do see here have abnormally short and rounded ears from frost-bite. If I ever have another cat, I want a Maine coon.

I have a cat that is 100% indoors. They are fine with it if raised that way, and it is much safer for them – not only the weather, but disease and injury from other animals.

The only all-indoor cats I’ve ever known were a pair that I house-sat for many years ago. They were CRAZY to get out at all times. Practically needed double air-locking doors to prevent escape. Longest 2 weeks of my life. I’m glad to know not all are like that.

I live in a busy suburban neighborhood near a very busy highway. I would never have an outdoor cat here.

We have a 22-pound indoor cat that runs into the garage and straight back – that’s his ‘outside’. He has everything he wants inside, he’s been familiar with the outside but has made his choice.
So why can’t the cat stay inside in the winter and sojourn in the 2 or three days of summer? Everybody needs a cat, they’re the answer to world peace – who can go to war when they’re cleaning up cat boxes and hairballs?
