Tis that time of the (new) year, had to go down and pay the taxes on the land I own so the state won’t own it. I can’t complain, our house here is newer and much larger than our one in NOLA but our property tax here is about half of what it is in NOLA and the land tax is pocket change.
I can’t complain, the resources we pay for are slow and limited but we paid much more for as-bad or worse services in NOLA so it’s a bargain.

The Baghdad attack seems to be gelling as a drone strike, Soleimani made the mistake of not not maintaining his opsec so soon after being involved in the attack that killed the US ‘contractor’. You’d think that a guy with his bona fides would have done better.
I wonder if Obama will send flowers or even go to the funeral? Obama hosted Soleimani in the Oval Office at the White House in 2011…bet he has a writer right now trying to spin that one.

Did BHO host Soleimani or the Iraqi guy only?
Barack Obama welcomed leader of US embassy attack to the White House: Iran’s ‘point man’ in Baghdad Hadi al-Amiri was hosted in the Oval Office in 2011 – eight years before he orchestrated siege in Iraq

Yup. And he was an IRG turd even back then.

My fat finger, Amiri was at the WH but still an Iranian Revolutionary Guard pawn. Obama reportedly stopped Israel from assassinating him when they had a lock on him – I fat-fingerred that one.

What a way to start the day weak terrorist tears broadcast for all the world to see.

It’s just more fun to make other people cry.
I should really not be smiling about this but it’s hard not to. I got the feeling from this that the bullies known as Iran are now learning that it’s not as much fun to be a bully when your victim decides to hit back.

More terrorists taking the eternal dirt nap today. Pretty soon they’ll be mostly dead or crying about their dead comrades. Good.

Cold snap here, hangin’ around zero. Was 9 below yesterday morning, so a little better. And LOTS of snow. About 2 feet in the last week or so. Glorious winter. All the mountains (Alaska Range) and our big volcano, Mt. Spurr, are gleaming in the sun today.

“She” meaning yourself? Surviving the winter here is all about having good gear to keep warm with. And it does help if you love winter, and snow (which I do). The greatest of all benefits is that I now (after 20 years in Alaska) for the first time have a heated garage to park in. Wow, what a difference! Not spending a half hour warming up the car and scraping off the ice and snow before going anywhere is fantastic. I loveloveLOVE our new house!

“She” meaning my friend. I actually enjoyed the winter when we lived in Upstate NY. Of course, I was 20 years younger, and had a very strong 10 yr old at the time.

Speaking of Mt Spur, has it settled down or is it still on-and-off burping?

Sorry czar, my little bell is not lighting up and I just saw this. Redoubt is the one doing the burping, and still does from time to time. Nothing from Spurr in the last 100+ years.

I remember that shortly after Desert Storm Spurr had a lesser eruption as I had a planned deployment there in early summer and it was called off. Some crow-sized mosquitoes and biting flies had to forego the ‘me buffet’.
I see you have an ice cauldron forming at Spurr’s summit so maybe if it heats up a bit more you’ll be able to have a helluva crab boil.

You are right. The last eruption of Spurr was in the summer of 1992. I had just graduated from PA school and was starting my first job; I was paying no attention to Alaskan volcanoes at that time.

I wouldn’t have paid attention either ‘cept I had dreams of some anthropologist ironically digging up my carbonized body a few hundred years from then.

Our lakes are frozen with snow on them, but no snowmachine tracks going across yet. No one’s trusting the ice thickness apparently. But probably won’t be long, Below zero this morning.

Iraq is about 60% Shia but Saddam was Sunni and controlled the Shia with a big stick. There’s also the problem of one of the Shiite’s holiest sites (I ain’t gonna touch that one) being in Iraq. A lot of Shia still hold a grudge about the Iraq-Iran war so it’s touchy.
I’m betting what we’re seeing here is Sunni celebrating the deaths of the Shia terror kings who were also plotting the Shiatakeover of Iraq.

From the Daily Beast, April, 2017:
Nuke Deal Helps Qasem Soleimani, The Top Iranian General With ‘American Blood on His Hands’
Among the big winners in the agreement to curtail Iran’s nuclear program, count a notorious and shadowy Iranian general who helped Shiite militias in Iraq kill American soldiers and who has come to the rescue of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
You’ll find his name, Qasem Soleimani, buried in an annex (PDF) of the unremittingly dense Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, along with some of his colleagues from the senior ranks of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as its various divisions and corporate fronts. They’ll all be granted some sanctions relief as part of the U.S.-brokered deal to curtail Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon.
That Soleimani—who runs Iran’s elite paramilitary and covert operations group, the Quds Force—was even on the list appeared to catch some U.S. officials by surprise. A senior administration official briefing reporters on Tuesday morning didn’t have a ready response when asked when and why Soleimani was added. Secretary of State John Kerry reportedly denied that the 58-year-old general was on the list to be freed from the sanctions yoke. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, agreed, saying Soleimani—whom the U.S. accused in 2011 of plotting to launch a terrorist attack in the United States—had been confused with someone else with a similar name…

This was a bit confusing until I actually clicked through to the article and saw…

President Carter’s chicken heart confirmed in the minds of the Iranian terrorists that they could do as they wanted with America. Each subsequent Democrat President stayed within that chicken coop. Obama not only did as the Iranians desired but he paid them for it. What a traitor!
I’m praying that this doesn’t escalate further. But should we go to full war, with President Braveheart Trump in command, I’m sure we will win. None of that pathetic you can’t shoot the enemy if he’s not holding a gun pointed at you crapola past Presidents has saddled our military with.
Heavenly Father, have mercy upon us, keep our President and our military safe, spare all their lives. In the Holy Name of Jesus, Amen!

I do think that over time US should get out of these Sh*t-hole countries, and leave them to kill each other (as they always have), but while US has people and assets there the savages need to know that there will be heavy consequences if they are silly enough to attack.

Terrorism by definition seeks to make people AFRAID. Afraid to travel by air, or even walk the streets of places like London, for instance. It would be good to see a few more “convoys of cars” hit… make them afraid to travel by car 🙂

Guess they wanted to make sure everyone go boom. There’s a new Hellfire missile variant they’re using that’s reminiscent of the older AAM we used to us. It penetrates the top of the target vehicle and nicelong shredder vanes deploy, sort of like dropping a monster Waring blender into the target, it allows the elimination of the targeted individual(s) with minimal – if any – collateral damages from the blast/fire.

I was just reading an article on how cosmologists have found a star whose vital measurements suggest that it is older than the universe. Opps.
They’ve attacked the problem by that magical waving of hands used to hide the pea under the shell: “the vital measurements are subject to interpretation due to (waving of hands) and if we push the error margins with a BFH we can almost fit the star’sage into our ‘age of the universe’ guesstimate. OOfff, let’s just whack the parameters a bit more!
BUT WAIT!!! The experts say the age of the universe is 13.8 billion years, while studies by more recent groups of experts say the age of the universe is 12.7 or even ,11.4 billion years old. Oh the humanity of it!
What frosts me the most is having to pay for those mandatory ‘science’ undergrad courses where we were forced to pay to learn the absolute and universal truths that are now referred to as: “You actually believed THAT?”. Then again as you get old you get to see any number of scientific or medical ‘facts’ at Point-A become pure BS at Point-B.
