Sittin’ out in the backyard with a drink and some fireworks (they’s legal heuh) until we gets too cold and then we’uns will come in and go to bed. If you’ve seen over 70 of ’em, you’ve seen ’em all.

Love Ella Fitzgerald! She was heard a lot in our house when I was growing up. Ella and Peggy Lee were my father’s favorite female singers.

I well remember this cover. From Amazon: “This edition presents the complete LP Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George & Ira Gershwin Song Book Vol.1 (Verve Records MGV-4013). Along with the second volume, it presented a selection of the very best songs from the original 5-LP set, which was one of the most ambitious of the celebrated song books recorded by Ella and one of the best vocal jazz albums ever made. (snip) …presented 59 Fitzgerald interpretations made during a brief eight-month period from January to August 1959. By the time she made this set, Ella had already recorded song books by Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart, Duke Ellington, and Irving Berlin. ….”

My New Year’s dinner is boring, but good: turkey meatloaf, baked potato and broccoli. For dessert, glazed lemon pound cake with fresh berries and cream. Chardonnay, chilled.
