A wonderful New Year’s Eve to you as well Lucille, and to all our friends here. You post such nice offerings that I thought I would share one for you.

Craig Johnson, one of my favorite authors, posted a reference to this on Facebook. I thought you might enjoy it. Years ago I read a very good book with Basque characters and I’ve been curious enough to read a little here and there. They make very frequent appearances in the Longmire books. Anyhow, I found this Idaho link interesting. Maybe you can make it one of your daily travel destinations. Or have you already visited?

We had a Basque sheepherder group in our Utah town’s area. They had a weird sense of humor as every now and then they’d get drunk, one would grab one of the other’s sheep dogs and take it to the city pound. Folks there knew well enough to hold on to them, soon as the owner sobered up he’d be down to pick it up. ‘Swhat happens when you don’t have cable or satellite.

Thanks so much, Menagerie. I’ve bookmarked the site and will peruse at my leisure.

I’m quite familiar with Basque culture and traditions as many of my friends from childhood in southern California were of either Spanish or French Basque descent and very proud of it. Oftentimes the Spanish Basques would attend mass at a parish church for predominantly Spanish-speaking folk, while the French would attend where there were mostly English-speakers, though both churches still used the Latin mass at that time.

One of my Spanish Basque friends was surnamed Barcelona and I used to go to cattle and horse auctions with her family. Great fun! I also attended non-mass functions at her church.

Happiest of New Year’s to you!

BREAKING: Impeachment Backfiring, California To Lose Congressional Seat For First Time In History

The latest U.S. Census reveals that the 2020 decennial count may cause California to lose a seat in Congress, according to the Wall Street Journal.

This would be the first time in California’s history.

Other “Sun Belt” states may gain congressional representation.

Political power is shifting away from the Northeast and Midwest toward the Southeast and Southwest.

Residents seem to be moving to states with warm weather, strong job growth, cheaper housing and, in some cases, lower taxes.

U.S. Census Bureau released updates on the state’s population changes through July 1 in California.

“Based on Monday’s figures, Texas is poised to gain two congressional seats, and Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon are expected to gain one,” Breitbart reported.

“Eight states are expected to lose one seat: California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia,” the report added…

The siege of US Embassy, Baghdad – The Enemy capture a US Eagle…

In Roman days..
A lost Eagle was considered an extremely grave occurrence, and the Roman military often went to great lengths to both protect a standard and to recover it if lost.

Crisis Response Marines Sent To U.S. Embassy In Baghdad

Food for thought…As a retired Army Colonel indicated when speaking with Mark Steyn filling in for Tucker Carlson…the contractor was killed in Kirkuk and the proper response was not to expand the war but to deal with those in Kirkuk who were responsible. He also said he thinks the President is being purposefully misinformed.

Thousands of Kataeb Hezbollah supporters left funerals held for 25 fighters killed by US strikes on Sunday night. They then marched towards the US embassy, pouring through the heavily fortified ‘Green Zone’ before reaching the gates of the compound. As the mood deteriorated security personnel headed into the building and carnage ensued outside, with rioters eventually tearing through the main gate and inside the main forecourt of the embassy

G’afternoon, ladies and gentlymen.
Came out from behind my lurking rock to wish you all a Happy New Year. Hope 2020 is the best yet for all of you.

In honor of Stella’s fantabulous stories –
Obstreperous GDaughter had a pet mouse when she was little. Her mouse would ride around on her shoulder.
Around age 10, the mouse fell off OG’s shoulder into her lap. Mousey had died.
OG never cried, just sat there looking at poor mousey.
After about 20 min, i finally called Wicked Son to come home – was sitting on babies that night so WS and DIL could go to an adult service at church.
Never saw WS move so fast, before or since. WS burst into the room, wrapped his arms around that poor little girl, and she finally cried.

This tweet made me think of that poor little girl from so long ago, now all grown up.
The vid is 4 min, but is quite entertaining…from a female POV lol

See y’all next decade…have a cocktail for me tonight…

Violent savages managed to capture some Embassy signage…. burn a guard hut, and smash a window.

Hillary/Obama got an ambassador and 3 patriots killed.. and the entire embassy compound destroyed.

Consider this…. As if Impeachment wasn’t bad enough in itself…
If Nancy can make it stick.. I am sure the DIMS would manage to get rid of Pence (by any means necessary).. and NANCY PELOSI gets to be POTUS… Leader of the Free world…. controller of the Nuclear codes…. Happy New Year 🙂

I don’t disagree with the theory that Trump is being pushed towards more conflict by “Neocon” factions…. I really don’t know enough to agree or disagree…

For instance…. Douglas Macgregor on Fox…..Trump is being “skillfully misinformed”

https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/19678796/posts/179735

But whether that is true or not… the situation now is as it is. Trump is responding appropriately to this Embassy assault.

However.. as I have said before, I do think it is misleading to label opposition to Trump as from just a “Deep State”…. that sounds like a few have infiltrated “The State” (at the top). I think it is far more pervasive.. it is the STATE ITSELF that is against Trump.. Hence the Trump DoJ and Sate Department are still protecting Hillary and all the Coup plotters.

I saw a post asking:
Who is “misinforming Trump?” .. The DOD, The DOJ, The State Dept, The CIA, The FBI, The Senate

My answer would be ALL OF THE ABOVE.. and some others.. including foreign Governments and their Intel agencies.

I have become a bit of a “Dove” when it comes to military action. It should be avoided.. but available as a deterrent and as a RESPONSE.
I do think “circumstances” are pushing USA (Trump) into military action… pushing him into deploying more troops, rather than decreasing the numbers and staying out of the never-ending Tribal wars in ME. I don’t KNOW if “neocons” are orchestrating this (I tend to NOT believe Conspiracy Theories), but “at this stage what difference does it make?” 🙂
As things stand Trump is right to deploy more troops… NOW… to protect US personnel and property. It would be a tragedy if there was need of troops and they were not on hand. I am sure Trump is reluctant to get dragged into a full-on war with Iran… but… IMO Iran is a “target rich” environment… Trump could deal them a big blow without endangering US troops on the ground.
