THE STAR CAROL by Aaron Neville
Long years ago, on a deep winter night.
High in the heavens, a star shone bright.
While in the manger, a wee baby lay.
Sweetly asleep, on a bed of hay.
Jesus our lord, was that baby so small.
Lay down to sleep, in a humble stall.
Then came the star, and it stood overhead.
Shedding its light, ’round his little head.
Dear baby Jesus, how tiny thou art.
I’ll make a place, for thee in my heart.
And when the stars, in the heavens I see.
Ever and always, I’d think of thee…

Mornin’ Nyetneetot, Stella, Czar…
Sis bought me a bottle of 16yr old Lagavullin single malt scotch. Oh boy…if it is possible, it equaled or was a tad better than Johnny Walker Blue Label which has some 25yr old stuff in its blend.
Ooogh boy. Wanna a get me a nip right now! 😁
Have a great Friday and weekend folks!

I bought my oldest son a bottle of Lagavullin for his 30th birthday. I never developed a taste for Scotch, tastes like perfectly good sour mash poured through dirt…or burned dirt. My ex-FIL used to say if I worked at it I could develop a taste but why waste perfectly good bourbon time trying to like Scotch?

I think it is because I once overindulged and became sick drinking bourbon. Scotch was a later, and more mature, taste.

I had a similar college experience with scotch, and have never much liked it ever since. I do enjoy an occasional Rusty Nail, though. Doesn’t taste like scotch to me.

I used to like Rusty Nails once upon a time. My dad loved Drambuie.

I like rum too, but mostly in mixed drinks.

After a couple of mixed drinks, I will drink it straight. 🙄

I do like a top shelf bourbon, and Gentleman Jack is very good. But putting price aside, with a gun to my head making me choose, it’s easily an aged scotch.
Balvenie, Glenlivet…and then there is the Dalmar 64, but it’s $64,000 per bottle tag is just a bit above my budget! 😁😉

I once dated a guy who bought Glenlivet by the case, and would share a bottle with me. I also once dated a wine salesman who bought French champagne by the case. By far my favorite (both boyfriend and beverage.)

I had a bottle of Glenlivet 18yr stuff ’bout 2 years ago. Pretty awesome.
So…you have great taste, beverage and boyfriend! 👍😉
Now jumping to wine…had a bottle of 1988 Mouton Rothschild bordeaux a few years ago. 100pt rated by Wine Spectator….now $1000 per bottle. Would love a sip of MR’s 1945 bordeaux, arguably the best wine of the 20th century…a weeeee bit pricey. But after having deveoped heart issues, I had to give up wine because the sulfates make me feel terrible. But whiskey and scotch don’t have that. As they say, ‘ya go with the glow!

I’m guessing you wouldn’t appreciate my $11 box of Walmart Oak Leaf Moscato. 🙄

Can’t drink Moscato. Too sweet.

Actually, prolly yes. Good Moscato for few bucks per is easy to find. And this too, award-winning Barefoot Chardonnay is hard to believe for it’s under $10 per bottle price, also at Wal-Mart. Same for Barefoot’s Cab Sav.
Wine connoisseurs will wisely advise that there are pretty good wines to drink in between the sips of the classics!

I have a membership with wine.com, and it is amazing how good some inexpensive wines are.

That is a good site. The wine world has really opened up to the general population as to making many very good wines reasonable for anybody to purchase and enjoy.
The 5 first growth French wines are still great, but many other vineyards have caught up, especially in California. Even in Arkansas, where the Beau Noir red table wine for under $10 from the Wiederkehr Winery defies its price per taste.

Government taxes add about $16 per gallon of hooch, I don’t want the Feds any closer to my booze than they already are. I ain’t even getting into state liquor and sales taxes.
LikeLiked by 2 people
O how well I know. The differences of state sales tax can be a bit shocking too! I live near the border between 2 states. Can’t believe the difference between the two!
LikeLiked by 2 people
Until recently our area of the state was dry and I had to go just across the Louisiana border to get booze. At the state line at Pearl River (S) and Bogalusa
were lone gas stations with liquor/wine/beer sales – they each did millions a year in business from Mississippi customers. Even with the county going selectively dry there are virtually no by-the-bottle sales and I generally go to the Coast Guard station BX where I get booze at no state booze tax, no sales tax and minimal markup prices. Difference on a bottle of good sour mash is at least $5 and sometimes more. I have no idea of the price on a bottle of Scotch.

I was staying at a motel in Leesville back in 2002 while looking for a place to live. Lo and behold, there was a small convenience store next to it. But it’s main sales item was liquor. Now you think small mom and pop convenient store and think…okay, cheap stuff. Oh no! $200 champagne, Berringers Private Reserve Chardonnay, etc. Being new to the area, I wasn’t aware of their reputation. Lodestone of top shelf stuff. But that’s Louisiana for you. But Ft.Polk also had a great liquor store, and yeah, no tax and great prices.

The hardshell Baptists and Pentacostals have kept cities and counties from opening up around here and some places where beer isn’t sold on Sundays see the locals making that 14 mile trip to the state line…where they can also buy lottery tickets.
Booze and lottery pays taxes, people want ’em and will travel to get them. Mississippi finally started its own lottery with Powerball and Mega Millions after years of watching resident travel well over a hundred miles one way to buy tickets.

Well, considering the shoddy shape of American education it’s nice to know someone is teaching kids a trade.
Part of the program to decriminalizing innercity pimps and giving them a position in the Standard Occupational Classification System instead of the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program. If ya can’t beat ’em, legitimize ’em.
It’s a new program by the Clinton Foundation and Bill’s the dean?

Good day, WeeWeed! TEEN VOGUE is a hazard to the well being of girls everywhere; so this faux report isn’t far off the mark.
And speaking of magazines…I remember reading many years ago that Saddam Hussein’s portfolio included a substantial ELLE investment. The remnants of that sicko’s family are likely still living high (I bet in France) off the monies he stole from the Iraqi people.

I reckon I became a Fish Hooker! My Grandpa taught me how to trout fish when I was young teen. I’ve climbed all over various streams and even a Mining Co. catching my dinner all over North Georgia.
I didn’t eat them all, but I always took at least two home for dinner. I even fished at the state nursery where they raised the fish to stock the streams.
Anytime I caught a native trout, it went straight back in the water. They are all such pretty fish, but Grandpa always said to stay in practice just in case I was hungry in bad times.
I miss my Grandpa.

Don Imus, Legendary ‘Imus in the Morning’ Host, Dies at 79
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/don-imus-legendary-imus-morning-host-dies-at-79-1265052
Radio personality Don Imus, whose insult humor and savage comedy, catapulted him to a long-lasting and controversial radio career, has died at 79. His three-hour radio program, Imus in the Morning, was widely popular, especially with the over 25-male demographic.
Imus passed away on Friday morning at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, Texas, after being hospitalized on Christmas Eve, a representative said. The cause of death was not given.

When Don Imus asked the question we all should have asked
https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2015/12/when-don-imus-asked-question-we-all.html?spref=tw
My cyberbuddy Clarice Feldman brought this radio interview from November 18, 2008, to attention on Facebook last night. It is a hoot.
Via Freedom Eden, part of the transcript from the Don Imus show on that day:
Historian Michael Beschloss: Yeah. Even aside from the fact of electing the first African American President and whatever one’s partisan views this is a guy whose IQ is off the charts — I mean you cannot say that he is anything but a very serious and capable leader and — you know — you and I have talked about this for years…
Imus: Well. What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: …our system doesn’t allow those people to become President, those people meaning people THAT smart and THAT capable
Imus: What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: Pardon?
Imus: What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: Uh. I would say it’s probably — he’s probably the smartest guy ever to become President.
Imus: That’s not what I asked you. I asked you what his IQ was.
Historian Michael Beschloss: You know that I don’t know and I’d have to find someone with more expertise…
Imus: You don’t know.
Surprised because we didn’t vet a terrorist?
Hell, we did not vet a president.
Beschloss by the way writes for the New York Times.
