Completed in 1867, the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City was built as a place for Church members to gather and hear the words of their leaders.

Today the Tabernacle is home to the world-famous Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. The dome-shaped auditorium is so acoustically sensitive that a pin dropped at the pulpit can be clearly heard at the back of the hall, 170 feet away. Imagine the symphony of sound you can hear from the magnificent choir and the 11,623 pipe organ that fills the front of the Tabernacle.

Good morning everyone. Hope your holiday season is bright and full of anticipation. Yesterday was a busy day. The two youngest grandchildren, had their Christmas program. Conner, the four year old, goes to a special needs school because he is autistic.

These children just put on the best show ever. The youngest ones, six of them, came in in a six baby stroller decked out as a sleigh. It was precious. Attention wandered, some participated like they had performed forever, some refused like my grandson, and only one poor child was obviously in pain from the sounds and music. That child should have had headphones, but his father took him out quickly. At the end some of the adult services clients did a performance with the little ones.

It was a heartwarming show. So much has been done for these kids. My grandson was non verbal when he entered the program a year and a half ago, and many other students have much more severe issues. The work, the abilities and knowledge and love of the staff is amazing. If I ever win the lottery, this school gets a huge chunk of it.

Today is a granddaughter’s winter dance recital, and a family trip this afternoon to a church’s Walk Through Bethlehem. This is really an amazing experience. This church has turned their whole entire large building into Bethlehem. It’s laid out like a little village, bustling and busy. People in what seem to be quite accurate costumes, including Roman soldiers, are busy. Breadmaking stalls where the kids get to roll out dough, leather making, pottery, etc. Roman soldiers everywhere, and they will accost you and ask if you’ve paid your taxes.

Finally you come to the inn, and get turned away, then there is a short program about the birth, life, and death of Jesus, and his resurrection. Then you go to the stable, complete with a bunch of live animals.

This year, since we went last year, I got an email about it and they asked if anyone in our party had special needs and how they might accommodate us better so I told them about our two autistic boys and that a smaller party, perhaps moving faster through some areas, might be better, so maybe that will happen.

Anyhow, can you imagine the work and the money involved, to turn your whole church and pretty much all the rooms, including the large auditorium like sanctuary, into Bethlehem? They have probably a hundred people or so in costumes and roles, or as guides, greeters, support. Amazing effort.

I pray that this church and her people are richly blessed in their efforts to reach people’s hearts this Advent, and teach them the true meaning of Christmas. I will happily be making a donation to this wonderful church.

    Happy weekend pals.

I went on about the Tabernacle earlier, it’s one of my favorite music venues. It’s amazing that it was built where and when it was with the qualities it has. The church had attracted a lot of artisans from the East Coast and Europe and their expertise to the build, there was a lot of amazing work done on it.

I found the Old World methods used such as pegs, wedges and dowels being used instead of nails and bolts, surprising. Some of my ex’s relatives were in the construction teams, something my ex’s family was proud of – even after my ex-MIL converted to Catholicism when she married my ex-FIL and the LDS all turned their backs on her and her entire family.

Democratic impeachment holdout Jeff Van Drew planning to switch parties

As I mentioned before… it would be nice if sanity prevailed and the nonsense did not even pass a vote in the House. The DIMS have 233 Congressmen, they require 218 vote for impeachment…..We need only 16 DIMS to wise up. There were 2 DIMS who voted agains the “Impeachment Inquiry” already… so we need another 16 πŸ™‚

May i politely note the picture at the top of the page is NOT the Tabernacle, it is the Salt Lake City Temple. The Tabernacle is an elongated, low building for meetings, and where the Choir sings. Tourists are admitted to the Tabernacle. When people tour Temple Square, they look at but are not admitted to the Temple. The Temple, and all the temples are not open to non-Mormons after they are sanctified, and are composed of meeting and research rooms for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to do the work of the Church.

Yeah, but I have been in the Temple. They did a major renovation and before they resanctified it they allowed gentiles to tour it. Our guide/minder was super motivated (and they didn’t partake of caffeine) and took us into rooms the regular tour didn’t go to. It wasn’t all that much, you have to be LDS to really get into the rites, rituals and symbolism but it was neat. There was a really heavy audio/visual presence inside, as this was over 40 years ago I imagine it has increased significantly since.

lso got to tour the Ogden Temple (no biggie, we lived a few blocks away and there was little else to do in town) when it was built. They’re nice but they don’t have the visual appeal of Christian cathedrals, they seem more businesslike, there’s not that internal ‘WOW’ factor.
