    Morning all. They second pic looks like ole Clyde. He was one of the best dogs ever but one heckuva food thief. Once stole a ribeye off the grill.

      My mum had a chocolate lab that was a food thief. Stole everything and anything. She ate whole loaves of bread.

        Yep, Clyde did that. Onc stole a whole loaf of fresh bak d br ad that I sent home with my son. Funny thing is this son, number two, has always worked hard with his dogs and trained them very well, Usually they obey every command, but he’s had two Goldens who steal food off every surface they find it on.

        My dogs are tramps, and I have been awful about training. We once adopted a very neglected and starving chocolate lab who was awful about eating everything and gulping down his food for the rest of his life. Apparently he never believed that the food wouldn’t go away again.

        But none of our dogs ever stole food, not even that great beast. Don’t know why, but they considered the bar top, stove, tabletops, etc. off limits. Maybe I just radiated that it was my territory. I’ve never figured it out, but they have all respected it. They would steal food right out of the grandkids’ hands though, never got them past that.

          All of my childhood dogs stole food.

          If they could get their mouth on it it was theirs. All tramps even the hoity-toity poodle with painted toe nails that my dad rescued from a pack of free roaming dogs in a forest.

          The worst by and far was the chocolate lab appropriately named Chubs (actually she wasn’t a tramp but that’s another story). She ate and returned whole socks, ate cakes, bread, corn on the cob, meat, anything. She was still my mum’s favorite dog of all of them though a real loyal snuggle bunny. She could jump in the lake and fetch a ball for hours and hours and hours.

          We remember Zauber who, as disciplined as he was, just couldn’t resist a 4-pound roast we had on the counter. He ate that thing so fast we were amazed, one second it was there sand the next it was gone. That was the first and only time he ever did that and the guilty look he had on his face was so pitiful that we couldn’t be mad.

          If dogs get food-deprived as pups they frequently get food-driven. Daisy must have gone thru a period like that as she’s always been the food hog, I’ve had to start a food regimen and feeding order and stand over them when they eat. The other two dogs don’t bother with each other’s food but if I don’t moderate she’ll gulp hers and push them off of theirs.

        My cat will eat butter off the counter if she can get away with it. I keep it covered. My daughter says her cats will do that too. Stella wasn’t tall enough to counter surf, but Tucker is, so I have to watch where I leave things.

          My mum’s chocolate lab was small, but she could get things that one would never guess that she could get to.

          She was given to me from my cousin who did not discipline her for the first 6 months of her life o she came with lots and lots of bad habits.

          Cats don’t count, they’re totally self centered. If I pour a glass of milk the fat cat will just shove his head in and try to go for it. Actually if I pour anything that isn’t steaming he’ll stuff his head in to see if he wants it. Yeah, they’ll go for butter or sometimes just the spreads. We have to put them out when I do liver.
