President Trump Presents the Presidential Citizens Medal

This man truly deserves to be honored in this way. It is too bad that it took 18 years.

President Trump presents the Presidential Citizens Medal posthumously to veteran Rick Rescorla. Rescorla, who was head of security at Morgan Stanley, is credited with saving thousands of lives when he implemented emergency evacuation procedures during the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

I really admire Rick Rescorla. He suffered from survivors guilt, Why did he live when so many of his friends did not. Sometime before 9/11 he and some of his friends were discussing old age and wondering if they would be sitting in a wheelchair in their ‘nappies’ or go out in a blaze of glory. Now we know why he survived his time in combat, he survived so he could save 2700 lives. He went out in the blaze of glory or “Kairos” as the Greeks would say.

Rescorla was nicknamed “Hardcore” when he was in the Army. One of his men was interviewed after 9/11 and said if everyone else ran one mile, we ran 2 miles. If everyone else did 25 pushups, we did 50.
After the 1993 bombing of the WTC, he began having escape drills regularly. The Morgan Stanley employees had to walk down the stairs in preparation. He got them all down and he and his 2 assistants went looking for 3 that were not accounted for.
I guess the missing 3 thought they had a better idea and went out on their own.
