    We’re supposed to be getting lows in the 40s for a few days and highs in the 70s. Been a while since we got those temps, we’ll enjoy them.

    Good morning everyone. I wanted to share Bishop Barron’s commentary this morning. It comes along at a …prudent time for me. 😀

    TWENTY-NINTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

    LUKE 12:39-48

    Friends, in today’s Gospel we meet a prudent steward who serves his master wisely. I would like to say something about prudence and wisdom. In the Middle Ages, prudence was called “the queen of the virtues,” because it was the virtue that enabled one to do the right thing in a particular situation.

    Prudence is a feel for the moral situation, something like the feel that a quarterback has for the playing field. Justice is a wonderful virtue, but without prudence, it is blind and finally useless. One can be as just as possible, but without a feel for the present situation, his justice will do him no good.

    Wisdom, unlike prudence, is a sense of the big picture. It is the view from the hilltop. Most of us look at our lives from the standpoint of our own self-interest. But wisdom is the capacity to survey reality from the vantage point of God. Without wisdom, even the most prudent judgment will be erroneous, short-sighted, inadequate.

    The combination, therefore, of prudence and wisdom is especially powerful. Someone who is both wise and prudent will have both a sense of the bigger picture and a feel for the particular situation.

      Thanks, Menagerie! As usual with Bishop Barron, he provides an excellent jumping off point for a huge study…prudence and wisdom in the service of others.

    Good morning, everyone. Just got the news that my grandsons’ 19-year old cousin passed away this morning. He had a brain tumor, and it was not unexpected – just very sad. This poor boy has been sick most of his life; first with two bouts of leukemia, and now this.

      I haven’t yet but I intend to listen to this. I just have this vision of Congress completely falling apart. It is like a picture made up of roaches, but we couldn’t tell until they started moving and leaving the picture. Wish I had a graphic that worked. The Dems are coming apart at the seams. The rinos have already started jumping ship.

    You know how scammers use local numbers to call you? I never answer them, but guess what? I just got a call from my number (with my name) to my number (same one).

      I have had that happen once. Today my son called to tell me that he had just gotten a call from my recently disconnected home phone number, which we both called, and yep, it is not an active number.

      That’s bizarre! How did they even do that?

      When I was a kid, our city had phone numbers only 5 digits long, no area code and no letters; and there were still human operators you could converse with…no 911, 411. Need the police or fire department? Just dial zero and she (always a female) would connect you right up.

      When I moved to L.A. in February 1963, you could tell the area where someone lived just by the letter prefix…MUtual (MU2-3456), HOllywood, SPring, NOrmandie. CRestview was a coveted prefix because it meant you were rich…LOL! It was for the best part of Beverly Hills.

        Funny that you should mention that. I have no answer, but I watch Perry Mason and all the phone numbers they use on the show begin with letters. This was supposed to be LA in the late 50’s and early 60’s.

          This is all from memory…perhaps Los Angeles and the other large cities had five numerals and two letters for years before the countryside did. I’d have to look it up as to when the entire state of California went to seven and then ten including the area code.

          I lived in San Bernardino County (the largest county in the world, east and south of Los Angeles) until I moved to L.A. But I’m pretty sure I was in high school when we got letters attached to our numerals and in the 60s somewhere when area codes came online.

        In 1969 and 1970 I worked as a “0” operator, connecting long distance calls before anyone could dial their own. Paid $2 per hour, which was lots better than minimum wage.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

      Thank God for Governor Abbott! This precious little boy MUST be removed from that mother’s custody. She’s absolutely 100% unfit to be the custodial parent.
