      Glad there is something left. Mornin’ Nyet, everyone. 🙂 We had storms come through here last night. A tornado passed by really close just as I remarked last night about some really loud thunder. I don’t think it actually passed over me, but it did set down a couple of miles north of me. And, we got 4 1/2 inches of rain. The rain came down so hard at times it woke me up. I don’t usually hear the rain in my bedroom. I don’t see any damage here.

      …except I don’t know where it is…the link indicates it’s a deserted island…so hold off until you get a more definitive description of location via the carrier pigeon I found walking around with a little message on his foot…

      Btw, it’s believed that the ancient Persians were the first people to train and use carrier pigeons.

    City’s scheduled the crane drop for sometime before noon on Saturday. They survived some almost 30 MPH winds today plus all of the hot air the politicians have been spouting in their headshots, God nudged that tropical storm just a bit more south and sped it up so no rain or winds of note.

    Evacuation and exclusion zones have widened and pols – thru intermediaries – are starting to prepare folks for collateral damages while still saying how skilled, experienced and professional the demo folks are. This incident should be fully documented as a perfect example of political blame avoidance and taught in Political Science classes as a survival tool.

      I took a couple of pictures with the clouds a bit tighter than those above. I showed the County Disaster Management Coordinator and he told me I would never have gotten my ass to safety if it had decided to come down. I was to show such clouds with more respect after that.
      The above incident was the sequel to another storm the previous summer. A tornado came down in our town and took out several homes and a couple of larger buildings. A couple of miles away, the neighbor and I had stood outside and discussed the weather without hearing anything.

    VIDEO NOTES: This piece is (obviously) about skies, especially in the Canadian prairies, my home. I wanted to capture them on a literal level (the constant shifting and evolution) and on a symbolic level (the emotions they tend to evoke, which I would describe as a humbling and melancholic awe). I knew that electronics and samples simply wouldn’t cut it for a piece like this, so I was lucky enough to work with a few of my fellow students from university (named above). They donated a huge amount of time to rehearsing my piece, and even performed it at a university recital in April. You guys are amazing.

    The visuals here were filmed by me. I biked around my home town chasing clouds over fields and rooftops with my camera (a Canon g7x). At one point, I actually had the police approach me. They weren’t upset, they were just confused, which is understandable.

    OK sports fans, the crane demolition has once more been postponed to sometime after noon on Sunday. Presumably the delay was coordinated with the Archdiocese (no one’s saying) as that would be the end of Mass in the big St Louis Cathedral and other churches/chapels in the Quarter where the noise and vibrations from the blasts and falls will be particularly loud/potentially damaging.

    They’ve farther extended the evac and exclusion zones though there’s no indication that they’re going to close the I-10 that runs right by the edge of the exclusion zone. Problem is that there’ll be people driving by when the blasts go of some 300 feet in the air. Even if there is no spall that hits the Interstate the noise is guaranteed to shake up drivers, maybe even cause an accident. Then there’s the inevitability of gawkers, I can’t be the only one who realizes you’ve got a ringside seat to the blasts from the elevated I-10.

    Thing that bothers me is that the wind after noon is guesstimated to be 7-to-10 MPH out of the southish. That will carry the dust and skew the noise to the north – right towards the I-10 a few blocks north. I’m sure the packs of salivating tort lawyer stalking the area have taken that into effect – this is going to be a feeding frenzy – so I’m hoping that someone decides to deal with the I-10 issue and if not well the new emergency hospital is immediately on the other side of the I-10 from the blast zone.
