Good morning, Nyet! All that wonderful bacon on the plate with toast–rye bred, maybe–and perhaps a quiche will be enough to get me going for the day to check out Tasmania where they’re into their second month of spring…

…a very pretty place…
…where I might run into some sea lions or seals…
What’s the difference between seals and sea lions? Sea lions (left) are brown, bark loudly, “walk” on land using their large flippers and have visible ear flaps. Seals have small flippers, wriggle on their bellies on land, and lack visible ear flaps.
Tasmania – Australia

LOL! And they deserve every minute of it! In the early 70s I went out on a date with a hippie leftist Hollywood activist. I may have been a leftie then myself, but my vehicles were NEVER messy. His car was, without doubt, the messiest I’d ever seen…a Karmann Ghia which was sort of his file cabinet, kitchen and lounge area. Dang if he wasn’t a narcissist, too, and still lived with his mother! I shoulda known that his character was lacking when my dog growled at him and wouldn’t stop. Hahahahaha!

Dogs know. The first time my future SIL came to my house to pick up my daughter for a date, my dog rolled over on her back at his feet. That dog never did that to anyone before or after that.

I remember reading about a woman who was going out for the first time with a man. Her gentle, sweet little dog acted very aggressive toward him and barked and barked. When they got back home, he tried to molest her. She never went out after that with anyone that her dog didn’t approve of.

How cute! Dogs are so terrific!
For about six months in the mid-70s a male friend of mine just starting his Hollywood production career rented my second bedroom. We weren’t partners, but my folks were aghast. I explained that he was a pal (and decorated Vietnam vet/retired Marine Sergeant) and that my terrier adored him from the moment they met.
My friend moved out after he’d gotten his Midwesterner mother’s hospital bills paid for (the reason for needing a roommate in the first place)…and by that time you would have thought his rooming with me had been my parents idea they liked him so much! Yes, dogs know!

How are you doing, Stella? Are the meds regulated and doing their job properly?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Still adjusting. May have to add meds to decrease blood pressure even more. Today I’m nauseous. It happens now and then and is a side effect of one of the essential drugs (Brilinta) that I am taking. It is also horribly expensive (more than $300 a month, WITH insurance) and there is no generic. Still seeing doctors and having tests. I have pulmonary hypertension and they are trying to eliminate causes other than my heart attack.

Does your pharmacy offer to look up any companies or other entities who offer a discount? One of my meds is ordinarily $250 for a 3-mo supply but my pharmacy got it down to $125 by finding a discount offer. I’m glad it’s not a per month cost!
You’re in my prayers, Stella. God bless!

When looking towards the bridge, that is Lake Huron in the near distance. The body of water under the bridge is the St. Clair River.

In the old days the main bridge over the Mississippi in NOLA was the narrowish GNO. The siderails that supposedly prevented you from plunging over the edge and into a screaming, terror filled death plunge into the river some 200-feet below you were low and easily seen through.
Czarina hated that bridge as she was sure that, as she drove over, one of the ocean-going ships that passed under would hit it ans…see ‘screaming death’ scenario above. Didn’t help much that every few years one would smack one of the big bolsters that protected the piers or some high chunk of antenna would smack the roadway.
I, on the other hand, really enjoy watching them go under and as many of the drivers on the bridge would do – I’d slow down to watch them go under. On those rare instances when we’d both be in the car (truck was higher and even more betterer) and I’d slow down Czarina would express her apprehension and dissatisfaction..I still have a few small scars.
Sigh…new bridge has solis and higher rails that really block the view…times change.

I generally like the Kurds. I generally dislike the Turks. But they’ve been killing each other for a long time and no one has yet offered a sufficient reason why America should stick its troops in the crossfire between them. We hear words like “betrayal” tossed around, often by people whose track record re: honor is (charitably) lacking, but that assumes America had a say in this latest round ramping up. If the Turks are intent on invading, a firm “No” from the Oval office is not going to stop a battalion of Leopard tanks. If you want to stop them, you have to be prepared to stop them. That means war, and the president – along with millions of us – say “No thanks.”
The whole thing is good.

Let’s do something novel and STAY HOME.
I’m sick to death of every time some third world countries decide to kill each other, America is expected to step in.
Let’s not. Let them sort it out themselves.

As I’ve posted before, the Kurds are in a bad spot. We’ve screwed their pooch before, after Desert Storm where we established a ‘no-fly’ zone in northern Iraq to keep Saddam from attacking them by air but allowed the Turks to attack them (Saddam to, in reality) on the ground.
Problem is the Turks have immense strategic value while the Kurds have zero value. It’s realpolitik, and the fact that the Kurds want huge chunks of Turkey and Iraq as part of their homeland doesn’t help much either.
Helping us gave them brief respite from the Turks – Turks even freely moved Kurd fighters thru Turkey to the front. The West dangled the promise of a safe zone in eastern Syria under the Kurds’ noses and the Kurds sorta bought it, then reality set in and the chair was pulled out from under them again.
No way in Hell that the Turks are going to allow a Kurd enclave on their border in Syria, ESPECIALLY on land Turkey claims as its own. This is the exact same issue that’s had the Turks/Kurds fighting for decades. The Kurds are predestined to go at it with the Iraqis and Turks until divine intervention grants them a homeland or the owners of the lands the Kurds kill off enough to render them moot.
As we used to say: sucks to be a Kurd.
BTW, the Kurds just joined a long line of ‘helpers’ we screwed after we were done with them. From WWII we forced repatriation of the Dawn Cossacks (Stalin murdered them and their families) and some 25,000ish Allied POWs (Stalin got them too), Vietnam had us abandoning the Hmong, Nung and 1600ish US POWs, the guerillas who supported our coups in Central America and Africa – as Hank Jr would say: “It’s a family tradition”.

Yes, it’s an excellent article. I’m certainly no fan of Turkey’s invasion or Erdogan’s desire to reinstate the Ottoman Empire under his leadership (like other Muslim countries would allow or welcome that…sheesh!). But this is a Muslim against Muslim war and it will go on whether we have our men dying for the Kurds or not.
Here’s a report from One America News Network…

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.

A brilliant friend, who may or may not wish to be identified, wrote this about what’s happening with the (greatly divided, one size does not fit all) Kurds:
“Trump has abandoned the PKK Kurds. The Peshmerga Kurds continue to be quietly advised and supported in all ways by the US. They are superbly trained, aided by Israel as well. The PKK are a communist group of terrorists who would establish a socialist Kurdistan. Trump has left the dirty work of getting rid of them to Erdogan, if he so wishes. They are based in Turkey.”

Somebody today, was explaining there are three different groups of Kurds. This fits exactly with that.

Only thing is that the Kurds have been using the ‘PKK’ rubber stamp to target Kurds they want to eliminate while giving the other NATO nations a fig leaf. When we set up the no-fly zone and told the Turks they couldn’t get into Iraq to hunt down Kurds using it as a safe haven the Turks said they’d only kill PKK and the US relented. Unbeknownst to the PKK their ranks increased remarkably in the face of advancing Turkish forces.
The Turks will kill any Kurd in their path, they won’t ask for party membership cards before they launch the rocket, any Kurd’s an acceptable civilian casualty.
We don’t want to think our government, or a favorite president, can stand by while world politics plays out but it happens. Reagan was president while the Vietnamese Communists and Russians where using chem/bio to slaughter the Hmong while the US argued whether one of the primary agents being used was a bio, chem or uncategorised weapon. We knew what they were doing but, as with the Kurds/PKK, there are situations you just have to put into the Things Too Hard To Do box.
I’m sure the Turks will demonstrate restraint in killing Kurds….errrr ‘PKK’…just as they’ve been doing for decades wherever they find ‘PKK’, just as I’m sure those pesky PKKs will just keep on apoppin’ up. Either way we’re going to have more dead Kurds.
