    People are in a tizzy because VP Pence had a motorcade on Mackinac Island. Being a lowly Michigan expat, I can’t speak for anyone but me, but a couple things occur to me, especially since I am seeing this story in the Detroit papers and the NYT.

    First, this broken tradition is another casualty of liberals. My party wasn’t the one committing asault in the streets after the election, nor did we say to bring a gun to a knife fight. It’s too bad the motorcade was needed, but these unhinged liberals tried to murder a Republican at a baseball game. We can’t take any chances with these unhinged lunatics.

    Second, am I really expected to believe that prior to the VP’s visit, anyone at the NYT a) knew what Mackinac Island was, and b) could find it – or Michigan, for that matter – on a map?

      It’s a big nothing. Mackinac has police cars, ambulances and fire engines, not to mention an airport, with airplanes. In the winter, most of the horses are removed to the mainland, and snowmobiles are the main type of transportation.

      Police and military vehicles are exempt from the non-motor laws, and since the Secret Service insisted on protected motor transport, that seems to close the conversation.

        Amazing…even in the height of the anti-war movement, I never heard anyone talk this crazy against President Johnson. There were folks who were nuts when speaking about GWB, of course.

        If Odummer had gone to the Island and taken cars, we’d have gotten glowing stories about a “special exception” for his safety.

        And I still don’t think the staff at the NYT could find Michigan without Google. But they’re sure down for a tradition they knew nothing about until VP Pence happened along.

    With all this talk about Fall here I had to snicker at my friend here in Central FL. She was telling me that she had found a warm robe when she went garage saleing over the weekend. It is to take with her when she goes “North” with another friend in a couple of weeks. Finally I said, “North? I thought you were going to Mississippi.” I will admit it is a little cooler there than it is here, 85* instead of 90* and a little cooler at night.
