      The antigun crowd ran into a big problem – too many people liked too many different types of guns. When they tried to ban guns in the generic they bit off too much to chew so they tried to narrow it by creating the more specific category of ‘assault rifle’.

      The assault rifle was a more specific category but they couldn’t nail down what an assault rifle was and kept trying to expand the definition to the point where manual can openers would fit in. Remember the ’94 ban set to sunset in ’04? The slapdash definitions left people scratching their heads for the full 10 years to guess what guns might also be included while it left out a few that were patently ‘assault rifles’ by the laws definition. When the law died its natural death in ’04 the sales of ‘assault rifles’ skyrocketed and hasn’t letup, folks who probably never even thought of buying one bought one…or more.

      You’ll note that California, at the forefront in banning guns, has tried to ban ‘assault rifles’ in the last few decades and their effort has evolved into a tortuous process of constantly trying to tweak the original law after manufacturers find a way to circumvent their previous tweaks and CA gun owners rush to buy the latest workaround. People want their guns while it’s the government who wants to take them
      its own.

      The antigunners decided to become more specific, they needed a straw dog to focus public anger and attention, instead of guns in general they went for a gun in particular. If you remember it was the AK-47 but even though it’s still a favorite of innercity thugs, it didn’t have the cultural appeal of the more common AR-15, a gun seen everywhere in the news for the last 20ish years in connection with the GWOT.

      The cultural connotations of the AR count too. It’s far more common than the AK in the white conservative community. The Democrat’s primary enemy is white conservatives and the perception is that the AR is the weapon of choice of all of those white groups the Democrats target. Remember those idiotic ‘prepper’ programs back in the Obama era? What guns did you see the loony, overwhelmingly white preppers storing away with thousands of rounds of ammo? Not too many AKs, it was mostly ARs and those infamous ‘plastic pistols’ Glocks. AKs have a perception of being a thug gun and the antigunners do not want to take the slightest chance that anything might detract from their mission to ban guns period so they’re making this a white issue by targeting a gun perceived as used primarily by whites.

      The Rats are keenly aware that many of the pre-Kennedy gun control laws were aimed at keeping guns away from blacks, a fact heavily pointed out to black gun owners by various pro-gun groups so the Rats want to avoid that racist thread that underlies their disarmament campaign. I’m betting the Rats see a huge potential conflict coming up as their new Latino base which already close to, if not outnumbers, its black base and some Rats see it as a good idea to disarm them too.

      The Rats areb’t stopping with the AR, that’s their straw dog. Note Beto, and every other Rat, says AK too but first in their speeches is the AR, their bête noire, their foot in the door. They’ll lead with it but as they did in ’94 you can be sure that once the AR’;s on the table they’ll shovel every other thing they can onto the table with it.

    I just saw on the news that UAW employees in Bedford (Southern Indiana) are on strike. It seems that their new contract feel through, and they don’t like the increased healthcare cost, the fact that some people are only allowed to be temps, wage reduction, and the fact that jobs are being outsourced.

    My first thought was, ‘aren’t you the same people that made it so the government took over GM?’ My second was. ‘hasn’t anyone taught these Dem supporters about the laws of cause and effect?’

      Used to be that when the government wanted to tell the Rooskies we wuz irritated one of the ways of agettin’ the point across was to run them BUFFs up and fly ’em out. We knew there were Rooskie plants close to the SAC bases who’d report back that the birds were up and our point was agettin’ out there.
